Always feel govt job feel more secured than SMEs. I know this person started a business abt 10yrs ago … part of reason is for the son who is not so academically inclined, quite an introvert and lack of confidence type of boy. Many years to today, the son has a master degree fm a private uni, do marketing and some own research on new services for the co. Can only admire much. We also read not too long ago abt parents started hawker bz(if remember correctly) for next gen. Parents always worry for children arh…

Slmkhoo…on some info of the exact problem…I can only hope it was due to her superpower of shutting off for a period of time. Think i mentioned before…one will suspect if the student actually attend the lessons. It felt just impossible to comprehend on the ‘lost’ level.

              MrsKiasu,

I have watched this youtube video last night on students issues and really hope to share with you and all parents here.
Since the sub-titles is in traditional Chinese, let me know if you need to translate it to English.

Don’t worry too much. Once you accept the idea that all roads lead to Rome, it really doesn’t matter how the kids are faring academically now. For my case, once my girls are accepted into their sec Sch, I let go totally and appear spontaneously only if they hv homework issues but even so, I told them the syllabus are beyond me so go find out elsewhere. I let them do what they want and be as stress-free as possible (that includes giving up on talent prgm and H3). Yes I do hope they maintain the momentum like in pri Sch so that they can hv a shot at scholarship etc, at the end of the day, the kids happiness come first la. They are not big dreamers anyway so I don’t need to push them hard to enter xxx courses. Just go with the flow and they figure something out in the end? No need to get so stressed out cos learning is always endless and it’s impt they like what they are doing now to ignite that spark.

Full tuition for all subjects comes with a hefty price. $200k plus no childhood.

Parents can choose between giving kid a full childhood wihtout tuition from day 1 and pay extra for a good tertiary education. It may turn out paying less than what they would be paying for full tuition.

I see it differently, paying $300-400 permonth for tuition for one subject in order to get top 10% for ESIS value of $200 per month, I just dont get it. MAybe it is just me. Just saying only. adiós
Don’t think many parents out there sign up for TLL tuition for all subjects bah.

Even if I don’t send my kids for tuition in all subjects, but I am a SAHM and I dish out assessment books to teach them myself, does that not constitute to another form of tuition or enrichment?

Have you not come across any Singaporean kids who enjoy FULL childhood without any tuition since day 1? I have seen one such case. My cousin truly believes that kids should enjoy their childhood. Her house is full of toys and candies and she still pats her (teenage) kids to sleep every night!!

Both her kids are currently in sec sch and only interested in gummies, candies, playing toys /watch YouTube videos. I am not sure if niece/nephew can even graduate even if sent to overseas Uni because they aren’t ambitious, hate books plus values of delayed gratification, hard work, discipline and perseverance were not instilled in them since young.

Easily shut off during lessons maybe due to short attention span issues. Nothing much to do with having tuition or not tuition. As to whether it’s just mild or severe, we can’t help to diagnose over the internet. It’s also strange that you ask your DD to diagnose herself lah.

If she is ok with going to Poly, have you considered what if she cannot get into her choice course and when that happens, what is your next step?

Say she is keen to do Banking and Finance, Accountancy etc. but is allocated to Electrical or Aerospace Engineering etc., is she still ok to do a 3yr diploma in a course which she has zero interest in?

We always say can go Poly but parents may overlook the fact that for popular/favourite courses in Poly, the COP is very competitive!

She doesn't have any idea on courses yet. At this point of time, she is open to resit. Think that is easiest solution right now though will have consequences. I hope she will have more time to mature.
