Someone emailed me this, thot I'd share it here...very thought-provoking.

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.

It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings....

DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?
            the culprit is Transfat!

Rotti prata is so chrispy because of Planta Margerine... it is extremely fatterning, this is from personal experience.

                    Blobbi,

alamak, you made me go carrot- hunting in the middle of the night! Turned out that we're both right and wrong, haha.

                    http://urbanlegends.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=urbanlegends&cdn=newsissues&tm=328&f=00&tt=2&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/babycarrot.html

I usually only eat baby carrots that come with leafy tops because they taste so much better than what I now know have been shaped from bigger ones. No wonder those tasted so bland - mass produced, not fresh, and presoaked as well. But the white layer is not from the chlorine wash, but loss of moisture. You will also see it appearing on other root vegetables as long as the surface have been scrapped.
