PSLE 2012 - Results Discussion

WeiHan:
Yes, totally agree with WeiHan, the current education system indeed promotes elitist system at such young age.
Of course and it should be expected. Our elitist system pick the best out of each conhort and put them in a few schools for GEP education. And why shouldn't we expect that few schools to have a better results?tik:
It's misleading to only look at one top score from each school.
NYPS has 45 kids with PSLE of 270 and above, 232 kids with PSLE above 250 and the mean aggregate PSLE score of the entire cohort of 490 kids is 239. These numbers exclude HCL extra points.
That said, I am saying that I oppose differentiated education base on each child capability. -
Checked because want to choose Victoria olevel and ip since score is 255+3

VS is not a SAP school, you cannot include your HMT+3. -
Dreamgear:
Yes, top 10% of the PSLE cohort can take HMT. My son did not even take HMT & he can opt for HMT & third language next year.sandratz:
Hi, my daughter scored 251 + 1 HMT. In the letter given by MOE, it says that she is eligible for HMT even though she didn't meet MOE's requirements for HMT - A* for MT or Merit. It also says that she is eligible to apply for 3rd language and from what I know she is given all the 3rd languages. So even though she only got a Pass for HMT, MOE is allowing her to take HMT in sec school, am I right?
The other criteria is top 10 % of intake -

anyone knows the size of the 2012 psle cohort - the number of students?
48333, increased 3000
Must remove 1000dsa pupils -
notfreemom:
This may not be accurate enough as tjc only takes in another 75 pupils for ip
Hi sujatha,sujatha:
Hi, my daughter scored 252 + 2 HMT. 2A* maths + eng. 2A science + tamil. She was a potential high scorer who didn't do upto the expectation and yet dreaming of IP programmes. Following are my choices for her. Pls advise if am being realistic and trying to secure a place for my daughter in a good school.
1. NJC IP cut-off 258
2. Cedar girls IP. Cut-off 258
3. TJC IP. Cut-off 255
4. MGS IP. Cut-off 255
5. SCGS IP Cut-off 250
6. Cedar girls express. Cutoff 249
Really need some expert advise and good guidance please. Thanks a lot!
Since tjc, mgs, scgs will only take in the first batch in 2013, may I know where did you obtain the cop from these schools?
Actually my dd obtained the same scores as your dd too.
Thanks -

Child A with 250 gets the place in School Y. The process is very clearly described in that big grey book given to your P6 child.enoawng:
May I confirm this is how posting works
If a child A gets 250. Child B gets 249.
Child A selects School X as first choice and School Y as second choice.
However School X has no more vacancies.
Say there is only 1 last slot in School Y
At the same Child B selects School Y as the first choice.
Which child gets the last slot in School Y? Is the posting algorithm documented anywhere where the public can review?
Many thanks.
You should start reading that Grey book -
What happens if My son failed to get to his 6 choices, will he go to his neighborhood school of the school that has vacancy near his score.Pls answer as I am trying to help him choose his 6 safest choices.
Thank you very much for your kind help for those who answered my question. -
stressedguy:
Don't even think about the possibility of not getting into his 6 choices. Use your choices wisely. Make sure there is at least 1 school if not 2 that he can definitely get into. Don't let the computer choose your 7th choice for you. What happens if My son failed to get to his 6 choices, will he go to his neighborhood school of the school that has vacancy near his score.Pls answer as I am trying to help him choose his 6 safest choices.
Thank you very much for your kind help for those who answered my question.
