Compare RGS vs NYGH
-
Wonder why the YOG flag presentation is at NYGH ? Even china’s president Hu Jintao visited NYGH (instead of HCI ??). However, NYGH’s team didn’t do so well in the science challenge (showing now) last yr + this yr. RGS seems to do very well in various contests.

If you are taking the O level route to JC, HCL will give you bonus points to improve your L1R5 score when apply to JC admission - regardless of SAP or Non SAP JC.That means that if you do HCL in PSLE, and when you apply for non-SAP secondary school, you don't get any bonus points even if you have done well in it?
That's almost like a \"waste\" of your time and effort, wouldn't it? I mean \"waste\" not from a learning perspective (because you definitely gain something from it), but \"waste\" from the point of PSLE aggregate.
And if you are in the non-SAP secondary schools, what is the advantage of continuing with HCL? :?
MOE website list how bonus points are given:
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/jae/faqs/#bonus-pt
The cut off L1R5 entry score for schools like RI and HCI had been 3 points. So it is near impossible to achieve 3 points if you do not have sufficient bonus points. Many students do not know this when they enter secondary1 and they drop HCL. When they come to sec 4 it is already too late.
However, if you are in IP program, then HCL has no significance for entry to JC. -

RGS!Okay may be I should started another \"wicked\" thread.
If your girl has offers both from RGS and NYGH, which will you choose ?
but I would choose HCI for JC... now cannot anymore right? -
dimsum:
YES, i had seen the statistics put up by the school itself some yrs back (but i think shd be removed now, din go and check).
ya, that's my observation too. All the while, NYPS girls are affiliated to NYGH. But in the past, a BIG majority of the girls would choose RGS over NYGH. Now, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
their own NYPS girls are choosing RGS over NYGH but this percentage has been narrowed down tremenously in recent yrs.
All this while , NYGH COP is inclusive of HCL (is not only for last year)
so it's not right to say that becos of inclusive of HCL, NYGH COP is higher than RGS
the fact is in recent years,
RGS COP is dropping in yr 2007 from 266 to last year of 260. -
verykiasu2010:
But you have to score distinction in O level CL before you can take HCL at O Level for exemption at A levels.
pass your O level HCL and you can say good bye to CL in JC foreverBusymom:

absolutely agree to yr reasoning.
Sorry, I beg to differ in your interpretation of 285 vs 283 and that \"top girls are still choosing RGS over NYGH\". This 285 and 283 difference could be due to a single student or it could be due to many students, we are not sure. There are many possible combinations, for example, for RGS it could be one 285 went to RGS and the next best score was 282, and for NYGH it could be three 283 and the next best score was 282... The median helps to clarify the picture. The median for RGS is 266, while NYGH is 268. This means half of the students (of this group, which excludes DSA) in RGS scores 266 and above, and half in NYGH scores 268 and above. Here, it suggests that more students who have a higher score chose NYGH over RGS.jtoh:
If you look at the highest aggregates, RGS is 285 vs NYGH 283, so the top girls are still choosing RGS over NYGH. Also, this list does not include those who got in via DSA. Most of the top 10 PSLE girls are in RGS.
That said, NY is probably gaining popularity and it'll be interesting to see what happens this year.
let me just relate to u all a short conversation my gal had with one of her schoolmate who had chosen RGS.
her schoolmate asked her which school would she be choosing.
upon hearing from my gal that she would not be choosing RGS,
her immediate reply was, \" MUST GO RGS, only go to RGS then got face mah\"
so u can see why some of the TOP GIRLS still wanna to choose RGS over NYGH.
then my gal asked me, \" WHY must got face?? most impt is to like the school , right?\" -
mommyNg:
guess that also depends on definition of \"top girls\". there are certain intangibles that cannot be captured in the difference of a few aggregate points.

wonder if more china born students opt for NYGH vs RGS? -
Jenn:
if you are in IP program, you still sit for O level HCL, get it done, and say good bye to CL / HCL in JC 1/2 unless you are doing Chinese History / Chinese Lit ............
However, if you are in IP program, then HCL has no significance for entry to JC. -
someone posted about chinese calligraphy being in the timetable for NYGH
may be it is part of enrichment program ? just like in NYPS, it is en enrichment program up to P3 level but it is timetabled alongside other subjects
BTW, both NYPS and NYGH is using the same coach for the chn calligraphy -
toddles:
Last year's PSLE top scorer went to RGS, if not mistaken.
wonder if more china born students opt for NYGH vs RGS?
I would think it makes sense to do the opposite. Given RGS's culture, it would do the China born students more good to be in RGS, to be more exposed to the non-Chinese culture.
