Compare RGS vs NYGH

3) Links with RI - as a teenage girl, it's just so much more cooler to be associated with RI boys (who are the smartest/most president scholar/etc) don't you think?? Erm, i don't know about now, but in my time, Chinese High boys were just so - geeky and bespectacled and pimply :siam:

In my chats with mums and kids, I find that while many of the girls are keen on RGS, their mums prefer them to go to NYGH. The reason most often given is that NYGH is strong in cultural and traditional values, that it's bilingual and their girls will grow up to respect their elders, have filial piety and will not be too headstrong.
I, on the other hand, prefer RGS precisely because they imbue a sense of independence, confidence and can-do attitude in all their girls.
I've also heard from mums that the girls who end up choosing RGS are the outspoken go-getter types and the ones who choose NYGH are your nicer, more congenial ones.
Of course these are generalisations but many decisions are based on generalisations. -
In the previous era, girls just had to be goody two shoes, filial, get married, have children, take of the house, etc. So naturally mum’s would prefer NYGH. RGS develops girls to become independant, an asset they need to survive in this generation. Being finacially dependant on your husband is not the norm anymore

In the previous era, PSLE wasn't so competitive. There wasn't any IP or DSA. China wasn't important and being 'more-Chinese' equates lower social status. Top students were not mainland Chinese. And I don't know how many of you yourselves had to choose between NYGH and RGS in the previous era. NYGH used to be very regimental and strict in terms of hairstyle, shoes etc. RGS seems to be the only logical choice for girls with better results... in the previous era.

talk is that RGS girls very career minded one ..... corporate head honcho....work till forget to date and forget to meet the boys ..... the only boys their meet are in the board room and all got defeated la......foreverj:
OH, the above quotes are interesting. I have been reading this section of the forum for sometime. I have something to add.i like the fact that RGS girls r more opinionated, able to articulate their thoughts well.
I have an employee who told me that if you don’t want your daughter to be left on the shelves, you better don’t sent your daughter to RGS. Opinionated ? I have also met exRGS women in my business contacts who are so opinionated to the extreme that I would have called them arrogant, display of self-importance, domineering. And fyi, most of them are unmarried. Bear in mind that too opinionated is never an attractive point to men. -

at the bottom of my comment, I said 'for laughs only' -

Not everyone has the luxury of travelling to school by car.
I don't think it will have that great an impact. If RGS is your dream school you will choose to go there no matter what. And Braddell is not that far from the current RGS location. It's only 10mins by car.
There will always be people who find new location more convenient, while others find it less convenient.
Maybe it is just me, but RGS has been at the current Anderson compound since 1959 and its surrounding has lots of greenery, which makes it look cool but warm at the same time. The RI compound in Bishan, on the other hand, has nothing unique about it. It looks just like any other school in Singapore. -

Staying single does not necessarily mean that one is arrogant, domineering or opinionated. There are other factors at play.

I have definitely seen married women who are arrogant, domineering and opinionated.
Off-topic but just like to share another story. A friend of my sister comes from a doctor family background. Her mom wanted her daughter to marry a doctor so much that during her uni days, always told the daughter to go hang around at the medicine faculty to improve her chances of meeting a doctor-to-be boyfriend. Would you laugh or cry if this happens to you? -

hehe, i know what u mean that u wish to have this kind of problem,I wish I have this kind of problem 8 years later...
when my dd is in P6...
I will let my gal choose the school herself, like what Augmum's dd said, must like the school. one other factor to consider is distance.
but sometimes, too many choices is also a problem.
Yes, what’s impt is how the child feels for the school, whether she/he feels a sense of belonging from the start. -

this is also good for a laugh
