will the sec 1 batch this year be affected by this new ip system?

I think it will be effective with this batch since they have already planned the 7 IP School.

Hmm... apparently the principa hinted already. Waiting for official. :celebrate:

              :rotflmao:

Thanks to the KSP parents for answering my questions earlier, I finally saw the light.

So the thought of the 7 new IP schools is to pander to those who cannot get into the first-tier IP schools due to MT? So instead of reducing the MT weightage at PSLE which caused many to see red, now they give more children the opportunity to go into IP schools?

Is it like cannot \"afford\" LV, then buy Fendi? :?

Actually I am rather impressed with this solution as it can put a smile on every IP-ambitious parent and child . Cheers to our leaders.. :celebrate:

My understanding of the birth of IP schools was because it was statistically shown that a fraction of the children in a cohort who did well in PSLE certainly made it to the university. So based on this hypothesis, MOE wanted to improve the curriculum for such group of kids and use their time more effectively to learn more things in the same given time instead of preparing for 'O' levels. At that time, 'O' levels was not designed by us I believe there was no way to tweak the exam questions to make it more difficult for these bright sparks, unlike PSLE. But I thought now we have the rights to set \"O\"level questions locally? I stand corrected.

By having another 7 IP schools, does it mean that our tuition/enrichment culture has generated more of such children to warrant 7 more schools to accomodate the accelerated learning path? :?

If the supply of such children is real, then the 7 new IP schools make sense and it is really an eye-opener for me that our children in Singapore are really very progressive, overtaking systems faster than we realise.

              Otherwise......I rest my case. 😐

Why do you all want to speculate so much? Got offer, take lah!

Maybe people worry about banana money effect?

I am rather neutral now and trying to understand the rationale of the thought process because reality has not hit me yet, just curious about the evolution of our education system. πŸ˜‰

IP may not really ensure that the life of a student would be smooth sailing. Some students may \"slack off\" or do other stuff instead of studying during the \"O\" level period.

Does everyone know the real reason of IP in schools like RI, HCI etc? The reason is that the \"O\" levels are simply too easy for the students. Thus, the school bypasses the \"O\" levels but the test papers that replace this national test is actually even more difficult.Being in IP also does not gurantee you a place in the JC. In HCI, you need to score an average of B3 to be eligible for the HCJC in which failing to do so will result you being kicked out from HCI.

Many people may see IP as a means to enter a JC effortlessly but the real purpose of IP to drill harder questions into the students. The \"O\" level is a national exam and must be moderated so that the weaker students would not do too badly. IP is just there so that the better students can do harder questions and of course, it also comes with its conditions such as like i stated before, an average of B3 for HCI.

IP is not for students to relax during the \"O\" level period, it is for them to train themselves for harder tasks, thus please do not think IP ensures you a direct admission into JC.

You have to work hard for it

                    Very well said. Totally agree.

The IP programme also requires students to do project and indenpendent study which are part of their promotion criteria. Therefore, the students need to be independent learners and many things are not taught in class but a lot of self reading outside classroom. Also they don't follow thru text books to learn all the topics systematically. Most would just touch on the few topics and spend most of their time on CCA or project meeting and preparation.
