      Hi Yjjjj

Do u ever ask ur son whether he enjoy going to Abacus?

Cos the reasons some parents told me that they stop Abacus for their Pri 1 kids is bcos they dun wan to impose too much stress to the kids.

Cos now Pri 1 have a lots of homeworks to do.

As for me, most likely I will stop my daughter from attending Abacus end of next year before she go Pri 1.

        Hi Evelyn,

I suppose you gave me the answer. No harm stopping the program. And if he shows that he wants to pursue further later, then sign up again. I still feel it’s such a pity though, the program is good, just that it’s too repetitive for a child, especially an active boy, at that young age. Maybe when they are older, they’ll be able to appreciate. Those CMA kids featured on TV are older anyway, around 8 years and above.

But I’ll still welcome feedback from other parents on the long term benefits of the program, if they have experienced it for themselves.

        Thanks!

          Hi yjjj

Is ur son attending twice a week program?
If yes, maybe you can consider to change the class to once a week.
At least, not so stressful to ur son.

Previously, i oso enrol my daughter to the twice a week class. I found that she can’t really cope. So in the end, I change her lesson to once a week. (Although got to pay a bit more)

I still monitoring my daughter progess. Cos next year, she will be in K2. And tis kindergarten she attending got english & chinese spelling weekly. And I heard some parents from K2 saying that there will be more homeworks for the children in K2. I dun really want to stress her out.

If necessary, I might stop her Abacus early too.

do we have to pay more if you change back to once a week?
Actually, My girl likes her centre teacher and enjoys her class… but still my choice for her is once a week… afterall she is just 3 plus!

              Hi JHJC

I tik the centre charge additional $50 more for once a week lesson.

Wow, I’m surprised that u enrol ur girl so young. (Must be a smart little girl)

In fact, I wan to enrol my son who is also 3 yrs old plus to Abacus class. But the teacher tik he too young for it. The teacher recommend me to get him enrol when he’s 4yrs old.

                Zack

my child is in Sat. class.
btw, did the teacher ask yours to go twice a week? i did not take it up.
As it is, she is already doing CMA homework everyday.
I was told abt the twice weekly sessions... But due to time constraints on my part I can only let my son go for the once weekly session. Not really pushing him, just letting him go at his own pace. My boy is not very hardworking (or rather on my part) cos I usually spend time to go thru his homework on Fri/Sat nites before his class

Anyway he has completed the tedious exercise which requires right hand then left hand then both hands as it is so repetitive. My boy enjoys the addition and subtraction exercises which he does fairly quickly.

Only prob now is my son is not at the stage where he knows how to manipulate the 4+1 = 1 top bead or 4+2 = 1 top bead and 1 bottom bead etc on the abacus... if ask him to add 4+1/4+2/4+3/4+4 w/o using his usual finger counting method he is stuck.

I assume your daughter had febrile fits during her infancy which could not have caused any damage to her brain, have you sent her for specialist’s assessment to confirm that her ‘slowness’ is due to that?

                        Cartier,
Thanks very much for you concern. 😢
She was hospitalised for a short period, done brain scaning, ECG + 1yr outpatient checkup. Only recently, acadamically we find her slow. Had make apptmt with kkh specialist to reassess her.

I have a colleague, who daughter had fits when young, now in P2. Her result is 6.5% to 10% only. That makes me thinks/suspect that my daughter could be in the same problem. I have invite him to bring his daughter to CMA, hope its not too late for the poor girl.
