      Hi kwokwc,

Is it true that bird nest is very good for those with prolonged coughing? My mum told me so and I have been giving to my husband once a week now. It seems to help him although perhaps it was also the anti-biotics.
      :celebrate:
I have been hearing that bird nest helps in prolonged coughing, ie. if see GPs many times, taking a few rounds of medication and no sign of recovery.

Now my hubby also cough and I am also coughing. 😞

Hi, I do have customers who take bird nest whenever he coughs and he can recover after taking 4 times. However, I also know that there are some who are allergic to it and can't take. If given to me, I will give cordyceps. I know that the price now is really steep and there is also worries about fake ones. However, whenever my kids have very bad cough, I will double boil cordyceps for them.

If you have prolonged coughing, you can also consider taking those ready made cordyceps capsules. It will help strengthen your lungs too. To say the truth, cordyceps have longer and much proven records that it is good for lungs compared to bird nest.

Usually those ready made cordyceps capsules are made from man-cultivated cordyceps. Of course, it is not as good as those grown in the wild, but for long term uses, it still has its benefits.

After prolonged coughing, it is good to boil some tea for nourishing lungs to drink. The ingredients are very simple:
        玉竹
白目耳 (buy those that after cooking is still crunchy type, is better)
        百合
        淮山
        南杏
        北杏
        桔饼

This tea you can also drink when you are coughing and it is good for the lungs. Even if not coughing, can drink once a month for nourishing the lungs.

I hope I don't offend anybody here, but I find it disturbing that toddlers as young as 1 year old are given bird nests. My DD had multiple food allergies when young (not including bird's nest, didn't expose her to it). According to the allergy specialist in KKH that she was seeing, bird's nest is the top allergenic food in children in SG. See this website here.

              http://www.med.nus.edu.sg/paed/academic/AP_food_allergy.htm
She told me that children generally should not be fed bird's nest, especially children with family history of asthma, eczema. There are studies out there that show that bird's nest can trigger asthma in children.
I personally have asthma, and I was seeing a TCM doc (from China). She told me that in the recent 10-20 years, there is a huge increase in the number of asthmatic children in the Chinese community (HK, SG, China). It has long been suspected in the TCM community that it is due to the increased intake of bird's nest by pregnant women, due to the increased affluence of these societies. And feeding bird's nest to young children also can trigger asthma, although there is no formal large scale clinical studies to prove it at this moment. She also told me that taking bird's nest is only good for dry cough. If you have a lot of phlegm, taking bird's nest will only make it worse.
So my advice is, please seek a TCM opinion first if you want to feed your child bird's nest.

As above. If you’re taking bird’s nest, can you share with me the effect of taking it regularly?

All the bird nest is steamed kind not those bottle one which claim no preservative.

                        Hi there!

Would like to find out the following:

                        1. Can uncook bird's nest be consumed after expiry date stated on its packaging?!

                        2. Can you consume old/expired ginseng, cordyceps and honey liquid tonic in a bottle?!

                        3. Is it safe to consume expired bottled chicken essence that is still sealed and unopened?!

Appreciate any advice before I throw all of the above away 😞

                        Thank You!
