We can individually write in to MOE http://www.moe.gov.sg/feedback/Fabbymum:
Hey parents,
I read so much about priorities to Sporean was wondering what can we do to make our opinion heard to the government? I mean, apart from writing in this forum, has anyone ever or planned to write to MOE? I think we could do it now, while the issue is seriously affecting the Sporean...we obviously do not want the same situation, or worse to happen again in the future!
If anyone is keen /preparing to write this note, why not we sign a petition, or collect our opinion as a group and voice it out ?
Just a suggestion here because we need to protect the best interest of our homeland, by raising a truely Singaporean educated child for our future!
to voice out this matter. Hopefully with more and more people writing in, our voices can be heard.
For the past few years, we already had enough PRs turned citizen and these kids will get the same priority as ours.
So, cannot afford to have PRs vying for the whatever little spaces left.
Isnt it ironic that we sporeans are deprive from a better chance to get into our own local schools with long history?
If I'm not wrong, other countries Public School ,foreigners students (Including like PR etc) is not able to studies in their school?
They have to enrol under international schools, something like that. -
jtoh:
Actually I tot the school also has the option of holding back these seats. No?
It'll go to whichever Phase is in session at the point of release.junemum72:
I have a question. I read from various thread that some parents registered under 2A and at the same time monitoring for another school under 2b.
In the event if they choose to withdraw their seat under 2A, their seat will be given to 2b or 2c? -
Scary:
Actually PVs or not PVs doesn't matter at this pt if priorities are all given to Singaporeans. Tackle a problem at a time. To me, priority to be given to Singaporeans is most impt. Just like elections, PRs don't get to vote. PRs get lesser medical subsidies. Why in this case, PRs are on equal footing as Singaporeans and some even better than us? (Having said that, our population is around 5m now, election population is 2.Xm. Half population are those Sgporeans less than 21, PRs, etc. So one can roughly know how many PRs we have!!)
Scary, Agree with you with both a \"YES\" & \"NOT\". YES, If priorities are given to Singaporean first then we will not have today's situation. However, for super hot and popular schools with a long history and good track record the 2B PV scheme will still draw the line.... can we remove the 2B PV scheme as Champion had suggested ? You tell me... I think \"NOT\" because the 2B PVs also help legitimizes the clan members' and grassroot leaders' entitlement for those who have contributed in one way or another to a higher order then those who have not and besides PVs are needed and do help enrich the schools' programmes too... So, who are these people in the clan and grassroot group ?... want to make some guesses ? Hmmmm... :scratchhead: You tell me...it's anybody's guesses... your guess will be as good as mine :pokeeye: So let's not rock the boat too much.... But, Yes 100% AGREE must give priority to SINGAPOREANS FIRST !!! :gloomy:
It's really up to the school. Some schools, I think (suspect), may actually take in more PVs staying 1-2 km to give them a chance to go at it especially if their chance at Phase 2C, 1-2 km, is not too high to reduce some imbalances... of course not forgetting the need to stress that it is not guaranteed. No body can.teddy75:

****** quoting Champion before this ************
I am wondering - can we do away with this PV system? No offence to any parents but it would be fair and square for everyone if all fall under the same category....Well, I know some may beg to differ from my point here but seriously this PV thing is really creating the big hoo-haa - already 2 cases here in JW area [last year West Grove and this year Rulang] :sad
*********************
I suggest the schools seperate PV under distances (Priority given to accept more parents staying within 1km ) The remainings will then to be given for parents staying within 1-2km (depending on individual schools acceptance of how many PV on that year.)Since every year mostly all School PVs is within 1km go for balloting.
At least parents staying within 1km can choose to do PV or go under Phase 2C. This will gives parents within 1km have more chances .
For Singaporean , they thus have total 4 balloting chances whilst those not under Singaporean have total 2 chances .
MY SUGGESTION FAIR ENOUGH?

On another note, even if you, a Singaporean, are given 400 balloting chances and you stay 1-2km from a school of choice, the PR who stays within 1km and with only 1 ballot chance in his hand will still beat you to the queue... how's that food for thought ???
Call me selfish or what .....I can't help it but to agree and side with those who have remarked earlier that Singaporeans should be given priority over PRs whose registration should be placed in later phases after 1, 2A, 2B and 2C... unless someone have a fairer suggestion :imdrowning: :?: -

Not true... I studied in Public school in US, Canada and Hong Kong as International Student when my parents were posted there..

Hey arielle08, that's a good way to speak our voices out. Looking at this year's statistics (a lot of already highly filled), we should be doing something, else, expect years to come to be worse...But thinking through it, we still do not know if non-Sporean really has a significant portion of our primary education system. I wonder if there is any data/statistic to show us this information before we start writing...wait later our points not significant enough...Haiz... :skeptical: -
Fur-ma:
FYI and especially for those parents who, like me, are waiting till the 2nd day of 2B to see how many have applied and start calculating the chances of getting their child into their dream school - I called AT and asked if they will reveal out of the number of applicants staying <1km, how many are Sporeans so that I can calculate more accurately my dd's chances. They said will only give the number of applicants, no breakdown given. So in summary, can calculate till the cows come home, but will never be able to calculate correctly. Sigh... getting in boils down to pure luck :frustrated:
Actually i believe there is no directives from MOE whether schs can reveal the numbers or the breakdowns.
DH used to work in a sch and has seen through 2 principals. First P was a nice person, didn't want to give parents false hopes. So advised those who clearly can't make it to apply else where. Second P wanted balloting and inflated numbers to make the sch look very popular. Admin staff were told to accept every application and not to reveal numbers.
What to do?

I agree too that priority be given to Singaporeans. If you were a student of that school and your children are still not citizens but PRs, it goes to show your level of commitment to the country.
Can't agree more!lakesidemum:
In case some of you do not know, there are parents who did PV for 2 schools. If they can't get into Rulang, they still have the other. If can't get into either one in phase 2B, they still have phase 2C to try if within 1km. How many of us here have such priorities?
Also, quite a no. of vacancies in the earlier phases are taken up by PRs. If want to change, MOE shld give priorities to Singaporeans. PRs will have to register in a separate phase, maybe phase 2D before foreigners unless they have been here for a certain no. of years. I know this will offend quite a no. of people but shouldn't Singaporeans be given priorities in their own country? I believe in this case, there will be good mix of the rich and the poor.
YES YES, can't agree with you more. Singaporean must be given the priority. :hi5: -

Every parent involved in the P1 registration experiences this type of anxiety and stress every year, so you are not alone.
There's nothing you can do now, but wait for the day to come. If you don't rest well now, you will not be in tip top condition to face the day, right? So, take a good rest. -

Hi Alkanet, you are not the only one under stress. Me being one of them too. Dh chided me for being so tensed up over this process which is absolutely beyond our control. He added that it will be a bonus if we can get into our preferred school. If not, we just have to choose the next best school for our dd.
Wish you the best of luck
