Joe got 3/5 of Ken's marble.

So if ken is 5/5 then joe's is 3/5
Total 8 units for the 2 boys
          1 unit is 10
To be equal they needs to be 4 units each.
Hence Ken needs to give 50-40 = 10 marbles to Joe.

sorry just 888, what if the denominator is larger than nemerator? such as this question?

Luke and Matthew had a total of 140 cards. Luke had 7/3 as many cards as Matthew. How many cards must Luke give to Matthew so that they have the same number of cards?

does it mean if luke has 7/3, then matthew has 3/3
total 10 units, each unit is 14
                and 2units x 2 = 28
luke must give matthew 28 cards?

Yes. correct. It is something like 2 times more than another.. but then saying as a fraction form.
                  Where u get those questions?

for Q with \"as many as\" usually the numerator refers to the name on the left and denominator refers to the name on the right
some times the Q will use mixed number so has to know how to change

                      so for this Q:
Luke had 7/3 as many cards as Matthew
so Luke has 7 units and Matthew has 3 units
to have same amt of unit, Luke has to give 2 to Matthew

                      10 units = 140
                      2 units = 14x2 = 28

thks WCW, ur explaination is helpful and this makes it even easier for me to explain to my DS
                      Thks all ๐Ÿ˜‚
