Hi Sandunes and Pen88n,
Thanks a lot. I feel much better now. Things passed a few days, I should learn how to forget and move on. Actually, my boy was stronger than me, I am a supper kiasu mother, right?
Hi leexue, glad u r feeling better now. What is done cannot be undone so look forward . And let 加油 :rahrah: for our DS for the SMOPS on the coming 14 April.
You are not alone :celebrate: , I am also a supper kiasu mum too .I always encourage my DS to perform academically and also in their chosen CCA so that they can be 文武双全 . -

I got the form ytd. It's a initiative started by MOE since 2009. So kids have to go for audition and think limited to 100 kids (P4 and P5). They can only join for 1 year. Alot of my kids' band mates are in this thing. It seems that they will be working with kids from other schools in this as well. Last 6-8 months.
Don't know. Never heard before, definitely not heard about before for primary school.phankao:
Anyone heard of MTDC (Music talent development camp)?
I think this applies to band, chinese orchestral and choir.
Will attending it increase one's chance for DSA? Any experience?
Eg. band I heard is 1-5 pm on saturday..... Seems like long hours and potentially have to shift their enrichment classes. But if it helps in DSA don't mind doing that.
Might as well ask your kids to audition for SIngapore National Youth Orchestra, if that's the case. Practice 2hrs 2x/week, and not throughout the year. Some more if your child is accepted, will have MOE Tuition Grant for his/her instrumental 1-to-1 lessons.
But yeah, I haven't heard of MTDC except there was some pilot project headed by AMK secondary. Maybe bc in 2009, my youngest already p4 and at that time, maybe they didn't invite all students. 2010 was already so busy with SYF, and then 2011 already start to step down due to PSLE. -

Leeven, If your ds gets 230 in psle and the cut-off is 260, he will still get into the school by DSA. In ACS, he might be offered the O-level instead of IP program
thnx. sorry for late reply was out of town. Then ACS will be  no no to me. I want IP program. But recent talk from RI and NUSH was they should get above 200 which is Express qualification... bit confused. let me go to Open house for ACS to check -

if your DS is given CO during DSA & accept the CO, he will just need to achieve T-score of 200 during PSLE in order to get in to the DSAed school. -
I heard from a parent that her DS got CO from HCI already even before HCI DSA starts. Is this possible? :? If so, wouldn't this be unfair?

Schools like RI and NUS High do not have O level programme. All students they accept in will go in IP. For ACSI (note: not ACS), there are 2 tracks IB and O Level. ACSI do not segregate their IB and O level tracks COP at MOE PSLE school allocation. They only have 1 COP, and internally they have a higher COP for their IB programme. For the past few years, their internal IB COP is ~255+/-. In this case, if your kid is accepted for DSA and didn't make the internal COP for their IB, they will just place your kid in the O Level programme.ks2011:

Actually it doesn't quite matter whether the kid is in O level / IP / IB programme. More impt is the suitability of the character of the kid to the programme. IP / IB requires a lot of independent learning, research and project work initiative from the kid. Some kids are just not matured enough for that type of syllabus and if placed in such programme, they will suffer and not perform well. The same kid when placed in a O level programme might shine with more structure syllabus and more teaching from teachers. These kids will fare well in O Level and by then maturity sets in and they get ahead to JC and uni.
Most impt for parents is to know your kid and choose the sch that fits his / her character. Forcing a square peg into a round hole is an up-hill task and not maximising the space (potential). -

Hi, can anyone please enlighten me about DSA? What is the actual purpose of having this DSA while children still have to go through the PSLE? What are the pros and cons? And should it be a good thing to go ahead and apply for DSA? Is this only for P6 pupils?
Thanks in advance. -

i would be interested to know which school started to say in writing an CO in such early stage
