TF2010:
Received CO from HCI and congratz to all who have CO/WL
:congrats: -
Roma 1986:
My son got WL from NUS High and CO from RI. Got a letter from RI suggested that he should indicates RI as his top preference. We originally plan to put NUS high as the 1st choice. If he didn't success there, he'll go RI. Will that make RI not happy?
i dun think RI will know u put them as 2nd choice as it goes directly through the MOE system. -

No worry don't think RI will be angry. If NUSH is your DS's dream school then just put NUSH as 1st choice. We don't risk our DC's education just because a school will get angry if we didn't accept the CO right? If you didn't choose a school there will be lots of people waiting to fill in the vacancy so don't worry.

RI is a school, so IT will not be angry or 'not happy'..Roma 1986:

Anyway, all the posting is done through MOE computer system.. As long as a child has a CO from RI, he will be posted to RI (even if he puts RI as his 2nd choice), if he fails to get into his 1st choice secondary school.. Thot all these have been spelt out very clearly (with examples) in the DSA booklet? :scratchhead: -

I'm quite surprised at the high numbers too.
I think it's high because they know that nowadays, students are applying to many schools instead of just 1-2. I know of one who have at least 4 COs. HCI is one of them and the child has no intention of going there. He was encouraged to try out for the DSA by the parent. They viewed the DSA processes as a platform to practice \"interview and GAT/HAST testing skills\". :? To me, it's a waste of time, effort and money for everyone involved.verykiasu2010:
Have attended HCI briefing today, the chance of converting WL1 to CO is 100% as per principle. Based on past experience, nearly 50% CO receivers will choose RI eventually. The chance for WL2 is very high too, 98%~100%, depends on how many students give up CO.
did you ask what is the reason for such high % not exercising their option for HCI ? -

Why would RI be unhappy? The computer does the sorting. And chances are if you put NUSH as first choice you'll probably get converted to CO and get your 1st choice of NUSH anyway. -
RBsmum:
Congrats ! If you don't mind, can let us know your DS is > 80% ? Just want to find out chances of CO from HCI .... Thanks.
Congratulation to all KPs and DCs receiving COs/WLs! :rahrah:
We also received CO from HCI by post at noon today. DS is a GEPper.
Yes. SA1 close to 87%.
:congrats: RBsmum & DS!!!
wow, 87%, that's very good!!!! Did your DS apply for RI?
So, which school will your DS choose? -

No parents asked leh.
Well, I would not comment what are reasons cause such high % not exercising the option but like to share a question raised by one parent:
The parent asked that her DS not good at Chinese, what the impact would be if he studies in HCI? The principle said he wouldn't expect all HCI students are very good at Chinese or like CL very much, but at least must not 'hate' CL. If the student 'hate' CL, there is no point to study in HCI.
He said exactly the same during the open house. -
:rahrah: :rahrah: we received CO from HCI

:congrats: So is your DS accepting RI or HCI's CO? Which domain did he apply for?
:thankyou: mommylow.
DS applied thru GE. :? He is still unsure about where he wants to go next year, guess the peers in school play a part in his decision making. Will have a family discussion this weekend and hopefully he can make a decision by then. :xedfingers:
Congrats ! To get CO from both RI & HCI is not easy. Is yr DS score > 85% ? -

Please refrain from making such bias remarks of a particular school, which may mislead parents here, especially when they are trying to make sound decisions with their kids, at such a crucial moment..
between RI and HCI -Zann:
High? 50% wa. From the RI point of view, 50% who receive both RI & HCI will give up RI and go to HCI. What is the reason for giving up RI then?
Perhaps RI less focus on the variety of Chinese programme, like drama, debate, .. to help train the students in their Mandarin, what else?
i)
which Sec school do you think shows more concern and is deemed more proactive in developing moral character values in Sec school boys ?
Character comes first, before academic excellence.
at this point, we're grimly reminded of RI ex boys .... Kong Hee, Ren Chi monk (Shi Ming Yi), TT Durai. Which school make more notorious news, at front line news ?
ii)
which Sec school has richer, deeper history ?
Both schools are great schools, in their own ways.. Parents have to help their kids make decision based on many factors, like the kid's strength & interests, the school curriculum, special programmes, even distance from home..
Not forgetting, of course, there are many other good schools too, beside RI & HCI..
