I totally agreed with both of you but for a 12 yrs old , they may not understand n to face with rejection , it was really bitter .

Dear All


Just some advise through my DSA experience.
My DD is very lucky , she applied for 3 schools n got accepted by
3 schools cos I have been building her profile since 5 yrs old.
So she is very prepared for the DSA.
But some of her friends , applied for some school , a few got accepted by 1 school( great to hv at least 1 school so very HAPPY ) most of them who applied were rejected by the school.
DSA results are out just before PRELIM.
Therefore , it could be very damaging if the child at 12 years old were not accepted.
I know of a case , this girl from school SYF TEAM , RAD ballet , pretty , was rejected by SOTA . She vowed not to dance anymore n she chopped her long hair off ( very sad) she cried for a few days .
This case actually got me into thinking if your child has potential n enough qualification , then Parents can consider applying for DSA for their child .

Your DD is indeed lucky. Lest other parents who are like me get cold feet, I'd like to share the other spectrum... Of DCs like mine.

I never planned for DSA - having assumptions that DSA are only for the sporty, talented and the gifted. Hence when my DD wanted to DSA (she told me in May this year, a few weeks before the process), I freaked out.

Her FT explained that I was wrong. That DD can also DSA. And yes, I freaked out once again when I read some pages here and the length some go to to get a place.

As DD had only one dream school, we only applied for one via academics. And she made it to her dream IP school.

Hence, for those who did not do anything (like me)... Don't think ur DC cannot make it, k? If your DC approaches u, talk to the FT and check.

hi proudy mum, i duno much about DSA. What's the meaning of \"building profile since 5 years old\"? Does it mean a kid is at a disadvantage in this DSA thingy because his parents can't afford to send him to all kinds of classes from a young age?

My son’s keyboard teacher shared with me that there are 2 types of children - 1 type of children will give up totall when faced with failure; while the other type will work even harder to achieve good results in the next try. The 12 yr old girl who was rejected by SOTA belongs to the first type. It takes maturity to change such thinking.

I have given my DD a lot of learning opportunities .She was always craving to try n learn things ( n doing it well )since young. She has cert for taekwondo ,sailing ,dance etc.
She takes up piano , tennis, swimming too. Until when she enters Primary school , she knew DANCING was her passion n she needs to drop some of her activities as Academic is very important.
She is a VERY MATURED child.
I have never said you need to send to expensive classes. You will be surprise Community Centre offers a lot of gd courses too and cheap.
What i trying to say is that with this situation of entry into school where they exercise talent & academic , it is really competitive.
I was shocked to see many children applying for the DSA into schools who will only take in only very few ( range from 2-6 for CCA under talent & performing Art) .
you do not need to send yr DC to many classes but finding their passion n do what they like n enjoy will be important .
If you read yesterday papers about DSA you will understand ,a lot of TOP students are applying for DSA and they get the CO easily cos those Prestigious school will definitely want them and some where even invited to apply for their school.
Hope you did not misunderstood me , I was just telling how I feel about this DSA .

DSA is for students who show exceptional ability over and above their peers in a particular area, be it academics, sports, performing arts or leadership. If you have no exceptional ability, then DSA is not for you. Just focus on PSLE.
