The 2 that were offered - 1 piano and 1 violin, both had competition prizes even though they didn't have diploma yet. -

GEP pupils are unlikely to get confirmed offers from RI or HCI if aggregate scores for P6 SA1 is below 80%. I know many GEP girls in NYPS did not get confirmed offer from NYGH, I know of a few girls whose aggregate score for P6 SA1 were above 80% and yet are only on Waitlist 1.
So GEP pupils still need to work hard (in fact harder than mainstream pupils because of the demand of the project works not forgetting their exams are pitched are higher level) to be able to score 80% and above for DSA placement.
Whether in Mainstream or GEP, we need to encourage our children to do their best and don't forget about CCA. To stand out in DSA application, the child will stand a good chance if he/she is doing well in both areas academically and CCA.
GEP or mainstream, u need to be at the top of the respective cohort to get a CO. And yes, CCA counts too even if applying via academic.
There are instances of top mainsteamers getting CO to top schools and non-performing GEP students not even getting a single WL. This is the reality that I sense many parents don't see.
Hence I don't see \"unfair\" advantages that protesting parents are claiming. In fact, I see more esteem issues that some GEP kids have to face.
My DD is from mainstream and I do not deem her to be disadvantaged at all. -

Personally I feel that it is easier for the GEP parents to understand the difficulties/stress of the mainstream pupils because these parents are likely to have kids in the mainstream. It is kind of sad that parents who do not fully understand the GE program, kept criticising and claimed that GEP pupils have added advantage over the mainstream pupils in DSA and maybe other issues too.

I personally feel that way too. For the new IP schools like VS, Cedar, SNGS, CHS - they are all doing DSA that way. 2 main domains - DSA for IP and DSA for Sports.ks2011:

I feel that academic DSA should be removed since they will be admitted by PSLE. DSA should only be for arts and sports in mainstream schools.
Er....what is DSA IP???!!!!! Those who good overall academically and qualify for IP, nothing special right? THey would qualify via PSLE anyway. DSA should be for those who have special talents lah. So if the child is talented in only 1 or 2 subject(s) but not overall academically - I think they can be recognised if they are given a domain to apply for and benefit the school too. They might not be strong overall academically based on their special talents in only 1 or 2 subjects and might not even qualify for that school's \"DSA IP\" domain as such.
For instance the case of my ds' classmate, if RI had done their DSA as the new \"IP schools\" are doing this year with domain as \"DSA-IP\", my ds' classmate would never have gotten into RI. He's not good \"overall\" in his academics. He probably doesn't have 80%. But he is exceptioknal (outstandingly so too) in 1 subject and quite good in another. He's poor in the other 2 subjects. His PSLE score would not have qualified him for RI, but he did get a DSA offer for the subject domain he applied under. He was 1 of the only 2 of the pri school's mainstream students who got DSA offer from RI.
So I think the new IP schools should rethink their DSA domains.
Of course there are special talents in other areas, but I'm not going into that.
My dd is a age grp champion in a sport not recognised for dsa. Hence not considered in the school she applied for and that is fair enough. Schools have the liberty to choose the DSA sports. My posts are not about mainstreamers getting disadvantaged. My dd got an offer from NUSH for academics.Just asking for more transparency from some of the schools.
I still feel that IP schools should not offer academic DSA for mainstreamers except for the maths n science schools. For exceptional cases, ie: students extremely good in one subject, they should be admitted in the post PSLE intake. -

So far those few that I’ve checked just mentioned a generic GAT/HAST/??Test and didn’t see any mention of specific subjects. -
I personally think dsa- academic has its merits esp in cases where a child excels in maths, science except languages.
My boy is an example. He’s very logical, and grasps principles easily. He can score >95 for maths and science without any tuition but no matter how much efforts he put in, his mtl is borderline. Although i was prepared to contend with a probable lower t score dragged down by mtl, i thought why not let him try dsa since languages are not really tested. Am glad he got in IP via dsa.
Although he will be taking hmtl next yr, he has no qualm about that because he thinks he will have four years to prepare for it and he is realistic to garner a pass which is requisite for uni admission. -
why GEP students can get thru DSA easily? even interview fail, these students clinch a place.
We need a transparency from the way MOE produce the results of PSLE. New South Wales results are very impressive, they list down which part of domain that are weak, etc. -

No category for 'general academic' - it had to be one of the 4 PSLE subjects and the rubri said they had to demonstrate high ability (can't remember the exact wording) in that test. Another school my daughter applied to had all applicants take HAST and then selected ones had an interview. No differentiation between GEP and non-GEP.Nebbermind:
