DSA 2012

I know of some GEP who don't get into NUSH thru test 1 and some not even WL in round 2. And GEPers are no more than 500- split that into all IP schools, main streamers are not at disadvantage and still have plenty of chances.
The split between IP schools is not even, concentrated in a few, that could be why people feel that they took up a lot of places. But even if they make all GEP kids go through exactly the same admission process as the mainstream, those who did well in GEP programme will still be selected. Not much difference lah.
Let's not make baseless sweeping statements.jtoh:
why GEP students can get thru DSA easily? even interview fail, these students clinch a place.
We need a transparency from the way MOE produce the results of PSLE. New South Wales results are very impressive, they list down which part of domain that are weak, etc. -

Only 2 good IP JCs: RI and HCI. Most GEP will target these 2 schools. Top schools prefer GEP students as they are considered genius from pri 3. Main streamers are only mediocre people. Correct me if I am wrong.

My two cents worth.....

GEPers are pupils identified through two tests in P3 to have the potential for higher learning. And although there are perceived better IP schools (include RGS and NYGS for a good measure), not all GEPers make it or choose to be in those schools; a good number will also head towards schools that offer IB and Diploma (NUSH) programmes and this would trend up.
Non-GEPers who may possess high learning ability could surface through PLSE result or GAT (if they apply for DSA). Some IP schools group such pupils together with the GEPers in the same class (DHS has two such classes). And to say GEPers are geniuses is not entirely correct because there are students in DHS from two SBSG classes dropping out to 'O' level classes because of poor academic performance.
So why is this reasoning that GEPers are geniuses is not entirely correct? A possible reason is that those two tests they had gone through in P3 concentrate on the Maths, English and general ability. In Sec schools however, a lot more subjects such as Geography, History, Literature, and so on go into the mix. This is one reason why many had said that PSLE T-score counts for nothing once a pupil progress to Sec School.
GEPers had earned their keep and justifiably so, if you care to find out what they have to go through compared to non-GEPers. Therefore, we should not begrudge this 1% of national cohort for vying for DSA places in their schools of choice. However, they may be a special group of pupils but they are not necessarily geniuses.
I believe schools such as RI do attempt to identify geniuses in specific areas by offering DSA for specific subjects such as Maths, and this is open to both GEPers and non_GEPers. To me this is the closet process to identifying geniuses, not the P3 GE process. -

I agree with you that GEPers are not geniuses but try telling that to their parents. Yes we do know what GEP kids go through but it does not justify a confirmed place for them in top schools. Some non-GEPers work harder but do not get the same recognition. GAT And PLSE as measures of ability is questionable as well. GAT is an IQ test which can be practiced. PLSE is being revamped for reasons I shan't elaborate. Another factor not widely discussed is also the Singaporean kids who were displaced by more matured new immigrant kids taking the same DSA or PLSE tests at top schools. My 2 cents ...

Hi, good to dream, with all good intention, just to manage expectation, 3A* + A will not get 267. Till now have not heard of any case even with high 3A* + A =267, that is the T-score using SD.. just in case, if you looking at 4A*, then definitely is possible! Good luck and best wishes :xedfingers: -

It is possible that 3A* and 1A can get 267 if the A* is high A*. I have seen 270 for 3A* and 1Akrz:
