      Hi,

Sparkletots seems to provide a more comprehensive curriculum than My first Skool. My first skool has been set up for more than 30 years, but their business branch seems to neglect the personal touch after all these years.

Sparkletots builds your child more holistically through its various activities organised rather than the random teachers hired by my first skool/NTUC.

      LOL. My 2 cts worth.

        hi visualtexteducation,

can you share more on this pls?
is your child with sparkletots or have graduated from there?
        which branch?

i heard that MFS is more on play-based approach, leaning towards montessori but not full-fledge, maybe just a small part of the approach. and they learn to read/write only when the child is in K1/K2 or towards the end of N2 level.

          Hi Mommy2two and chrischris23,

You see, in Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence theory, a person has 9 different intelligences, of which each of us has a different percentage of each intelligence.

          1) Spatial---------------------- Visual Intelligence
          2) Linguistic------------------- Language Intelligence
          3) Logical Mathematical----- Mathematical Intelligence
          4) Bodily- Kinesthetic------- Kinesthetic Intelligence
          5) Musical--------------------- Musical Intelligence
          6) Interpersonal-------------- Collaborative learning Intelligence
          7) Intrapersonal-------------- Hahahaha.... I don't know how to explain this
          😎 Naturalistic----------------- This too... =( I'm sorry
          9) Existential------------------- This one too.....

If you observe, which i totally agree, MFS is more on play approach. Which means students are learning through the bodily Kinesthetic way. What about the rest of the intelligences? Do you want your DS/DD to grow up with only one strong intelligence? The reason why we are only able to use 10% of our brain is because we are too focussed on 1 single intelligence.

Let me illustrate an example: if you are being praised for your ability to play soccer, you will most probably be playing soccer as a sport ONLY. Your child might most probably then spend most of his/her time playing soccer then. Then, in this case, we will classify your child as a strong kinesthetic learner. He/she will then not be able to learn in other ways except for that!

Hence, it is more important to develop the full brain in every single way so that your DS/DD will be able to tap on more areas of his/her brain in the future and learn through his other intelligence that are in his/her brain.

          Sparkletots curriculum includes:

          1) Creative Art - For development for Spatial Intelligence
          2) Creative Language - For development for linguistic intelligence
          3) Field trips - for development of naturalistic intelligence
          4) Music and movement - musical intelligence
          5) Violin lesson - Musical intelligence

and many more.... check out http://www.sparkletots.com.sg/curri.asp

hahahaha... I hope that helps! I am sorry if I am too naggy... This is my views as a teacher lahz.....

              Hi Chrischris23,

I am a teacher in Visual Text Education, not Sparkletots. LOL. I specialise in teaching secondary school maths. I am just sharing the flaws and the benefits of the curriculum. I am in no way affiliated to sparkletots.

If you had noticed, most of my posts are regarding secondary school maths. 😃

              Cheers.

Thanks for your help trying to explain the 2 differences and the various intelligences (some of which i also dun know how to explain in WORDS, so no worries ya! :))

kids nowadays are expected to excel in so many ''intelligence'', sometimes even we adults are also unable to catch up. anyway, i just how the kid grows up happy and enjoy learning. 🙂

                  mommy2two,

No worries, I hope I can be help to you. 😃 As I am new here, I dun know how to help others other than share my current knowledge to help parents make the correct choice. In this competitive society now, one wrong step will send a domino effect in your child life. I am glad my parents are teachers and are able to help me through the education rigours in Singapore… BEST OF LUCK to you!!

You are lucky to have both parents as teachers to help you.
My hb is definitely NOT those KS parent and he would prefer the kid to have a Kampong type of CHILDHOOD where play is more important than learning to write all the alphabet by age 4!
i’m not from this SYSTEM but then seeing how things are with kids nowadays, i can’t help be end up being Kiasu as well. Just that i sometimes feel unsure where to DRAW the line… i want them to grow up happy but at the same time, dun lose out too much in their academic aspect…
at 3.5year old, my gal is already ‘anti-chinese’ (not race but language) and would throw tantrum when we speak to her in mandarin at home. her nursery teachers… either malay or filipinos and there’s NO chinese teacher as at her level, CL is not compulsory!
                    headache…

                      Hi mommy2two,

HEY! Don't worry!! Hahahaha. The secret is simple. One word: Balance. Avoid doing something that leans to an intelligence too much. Playing too much leans toward Kinesthetic. Bad. Remember 9 intelligences? Do a bit of everything. Not too much of literacy (Writing all alphabets by the age of 4) nor Kinesthetic (Playing) nor Chinese (Linguistic)... and most importantly. DUN FORCE. omg. thats the worse mistake one could ever make. make it enjoyable, make the lesson enjoyable. Sign her up for Chinese Drama course or chinese camp or anything that makes her Happy. You can always work your magic around.

                      For example,
Do you like it when your boss asks you to do something that you are not good in and dun like and forces you to do it despite your unwillingness 'aura'? Exactly. A child is like us. In order for you to enjoy your job much better, your boss could make a small twist by turning the whole project into a group work initiative while allowing you to have the reins. Although you are still doing it, you would feel so helpless right? By allowing your child to enjoy, you are opening up their innate intelligences. You wun lose out on your academic side + your child will still enjoy!!

This is what google churn out for me. Hope its helps: http://www.juliagabriel.com/mandarin.htm

Looks good to me. 😃 Remb, dun stress!!!
