Need help. What is the definition of 'hard' in topic diversity ( material)? It is not the opposite of soft and hard is not equal to not fragile. Am i right to say that? Is wood considered as hard? Can give an example of hard object that is hard and not fragile other than diamonds. Hard : cannot be scratched easily???

According to the science process skills book, a material is hard if it does not deform easily. It is also not easily scratched. Examples are metal and wood. šŸ˜‰

Metal can be scratched easily??? Yes / no?? So confusing...:(

haha...i think 'easily' or not, have to have something to compare with.
generally, metal, steel, concrete and some plastics are classify as 'hard' as they are not scratched easily.

          piggylalala,
my boy is also having confusion over hard vs strong, fragile vs durable, elastic vs flexible. 🤷
whether wood is hard, have to have something to compare with.
hard objects can be glass. glass is hard, but brittle.

yupp.. same here.. so hard does not mean strong???

Hard is the ability to withstand scratches.
Strong aka Strength is the ability to withstand load.
Glass is hard but not strong.

my ds1 said stones, wood and metals are hard. šŸ™‚ because it can be used to scratch other objects.
Examples of not hard objects are cotton, wool..:)

ok discussion over... thank you everyone.. šŸ™‚ good nite...

i think stones are consider as hard too.
for strength, it is relative. ie have to be compared with something.
eg of strong and hard objects are concrete, rocks, iron, steel, certain plastics, wood.
eg of weak and hard objects are glass, ceramics
eg of strong and soft objects are nylon and leather
eg of weak and soft objects is chalk

                  anyone wanna add/amend?

Do the roots of a plant carries water and food to other parts of the plants or they only carry water?

I taught my gal roots absorb water and mineral salt from the soil and it is the Xylem carrying tubes that transport them to all other parts of the plant.

Sigh.. it is really madness, having to do all these again ! Looking forward to 2nd Nov, which is the end of SA2 :rahrah:

So the xylem carries the water and minerals, not only water?
