I also never heard of it until dd is Sec. Its some come of community work you have to perform. In dd's school, by collecting and donate those can drinks opening part (don't know what is it call, we have to use our finger to open the can drink, that thingy  ) also can earn CIP hours. CCA also have separate CIP hours to clock. Eg. of CIP work done, clean the beach, help out in old age homes, library work, voluntary work in some kind of event organise by the museum.

Usually in their class, they have two reps would arrange CIP programs. Teachers would help if the students really unable to find.
i see. so it's only applicable to sec school. is CIP hrs compulsory? what happens if you don't meet the no. of hrs? No CCA point??

I think CIP hours is impt for Sec school (was told by my DD that she needs 100 hours during the 4 yrs). Some of her friends go to the local library to clock the time. My DD is picking up rubbish in East Coast this Saturday.

Also, she has intend to go overseas to help during Year 3 to clock the required hours.

          hi koalamummy,
CIP hours are compulsory in sec school.
Max is 5 points (contribute to the CCA grading sytem)
for 5 points , the pupils need to clock in min of 100 hrs
          can refer to the following

          100 or more hours - 5 points
          80-99 hours - 4 points
          60-79 hours - 3 points
          40-59 hours - 2 points
          24-39 hours - 1 point

              cindylauper:
My daughter just told me that she needs to complete 7 hours of CIP this Friday, 27 August 2010. Currently, she has only managed to do 6 hours of CIP. So she has to do 1 more hour by this week!

I thought she has up to December 2010 because the year have not ended right?

Anyway, she heard that the cut off date for completing the CIP is this Friday and we are getting desperate.

              Anyone can help? :?: :?:
              hi cindylauper
i am surprised that the school does not help the pupils to fulfill the minimum CIP required hrs.
as for my gal's school, there are plenty of CIP programme available for us to choose ( they inform pupils via emails, first come first serve basis).
my gal would come and ask me, \" mummy , shd i choose this or that??\" πŸ˜‰

Same for my ds school. He is in Sec 2 now already clocked close to 200 hrs of CIP. He joined many activities, not just for the CIP hours but some of them happened to give CIP hours.

                    wow.... :!: closed to 200 hrs ,
there's a lot considering yr son is only in sec 2 now....
as for some of the CIP activities, my gal can't participate becos there is a min age of 14 and above....... πŸ˜‰
so by sec2, she would have more choices

I heard from dd that if don't meet the required number of cip she will not be able to get deduction of two points and therefore more difficult to get into JC next time! Sigh.. just sec 1 only but must plan for JC entry already.
                      😒

Haha, this is e contradicting part. CIP are community work and suppose to be voluntary mah, yet its compulsory to clock no of hours. πŸ˜„

And for ip schools, not much to worry abt the 2 points but yet its compulsory. Maybe to prepare for uni? Nowadays applying for scholarship don't simply based on results. I find its a good programe in general but i am not in favour of certain activities.
