      Hi

For those with dd who skipped one grades, can I check with you, does your dd still need to attend the extra coaching class for the grade you skipped? Is this a must attend thing, and still need to pay for the coaching class for grade one despite not taking grade one exam for example?? And if no need to attend, any difficulty faced when joining the regular class for higher grade? Or it is fine and will not lagged behind as long as put in more hard work?

Reason for asking is becos some school still want my dd to attend the coaching class even if not taking the exam for that grade whereas some don't when I asked.

Thanks for sharing if you can.
Glad to share as that's what kiasuparents site is all about...

DD still did the regular and coaching class (with her class) for Grade 1 as if she is taking the exams. Except she cannot take the Grade 1 exam but went on to Grade 2 with the same class after their exams. In other words, she did not \"skip\" as if she did 2 grades in 1 year, but rather, she could not take Grade 1 as she is underaged and did not meet RAD age requirement. She is now Primary 2 and is learning Grade 3 (youngest in her class). But her foundation is strong because she already learnt ballet for 4 years when she took her Grade 2 (she got a distinction).

      Hope it helps.

My girl of 5 years old this yr, been asking me about going to ballet classes.

I checked with the cc near bukit panjang but timing doesn’t suit my working schedule.
Any recommendations for Town area school or Choa Chu Kang ballet school on weekend evenings or weekdays evening ballet classes?
Usually how is the course fees like?

Cc usually charges about 110/+-. Private schools such as Crestar will start from over $200.

hi mummies, just like to get a rough idea on what other ballet schools are charging for grade 3 exam coaching classes... i enquired with crestar and they are charging ard 680++ for 22 lessons excluding exam fees and honestly i feel its on the high side....

sometimes i wonder if I'm quite sure my girl will not be a ballet teacher in the future, is it alright to just let her learn ballet for leisure without stress and not take exams which are so costly? its really quite a long road ahead to reach grade 8... what are your thoughts on this? in a dilemma..... :slapshead:

                  thanks in advance 🙂

                    $ 680 for 22 lessons, is ex !

for 2015 April Grade 2 RAD ballet exam (born 2006), the 6 months’ extra coaching fee starting 12 october (Sunday) until exam date in April, for 20 lessons, is $300, at a community centre, located centrally.
This cc currently got around 6 girls, for Grade 2. (small group)

                    for Grade 1 : 11 girls.
these Grade 1 girls (born 2007) study in primary schools nearby, like Pei Chun, Ai Tong, Kheng Cheng, Marymount Convent, CHIJ St Nicholas, CHIJ Nativity, CHIJ Toa Payoh Convent primary, etc.

Anyway, whether join Crestar or join cc -
the Grade 2 RAD dance steps routine to be tested during examination, are exactly the same.
is not that if you attend Crestar, then the child has to perform more ballet dance steps, during exam.
The RAD certificate they obtain - regardless taught in which RAD ballet centre, is the same.
On the certificate, it’ll indicate whether the child achieved Pass, Merit or Distinction (for girls who dance ballet, exceptionally well)

                    FYI
For RAD Grade 1 exam, this cc charged $ 280 (for 20 lessons of 6 months’ coaching)

For RAD Grade 3 exam : fees charged $ 320 (for 20 lessons of 6 months’ coaching)

My dd won’t become a ballet Tr, but just let her learn, in case this dancing skill come in useful & handy, one day for her.
What you learn may come in beneficial one day in future, you never know.

If she lose interest one day & drop out before reaching Grade 8 ballet, so be it. At least, she had tried.
If she learn up to Grade 5 and decide to stop, will rest the case.
at least, she has some dancing background, not totally zero.
Once a child have some dance movement knowledge, it becomes easier for her to pick up other type of dance in future - be it Chinese cultural dance, Western folk dance, Mexican latin sambal dance, tap jazz dance, etc.

one good thing, about this cc -
is that child only need to attend lessons, once a week.

Even 6 months coaching before exam, lessons are still held only once a week. But become 2 hours practice, instead of the normal, regular 1 hour practice. In between, there is a 10 minutes break.

This once a week practice help parents a lot like me, who have difficulty bringing my dd down, for twice a week practice. We can’t afford to spare the time.
for parents who have difficulty fetching their dd, to and fro twice a week, trying very hard to commit to the long Term ballet schedule commitment : this is a good cc, come let your dd join.

Normally, it is the exam that force them to be disciplined, and to learn.
If they learn at leisure no exam, then they don’t really put their heart and soul into remembering the dance steps well.

                      Dear phtthp,

Thanks for your informative and insightful reply... yes, the more i think about it and i also enquired with other centres, it seems that crestar is the costliest so far.. I've also decided to put her in a cc class with a teacher thats highly recommended by a couple of friends...although the number of students is higher than a private ballet school, the teacher is v experienced and i guess she can manage the larger number effectively.. hope my girl will learn well there 🙂

i also agree with what u said about exams creating the need to learn their steps and routine well, a little stress from taking ballet lessons more seriously and to put more effort in preparation for the exams may actually do them some good, heh...

thanks again for your input, very much appreciated! :thankyou:
