The most ideal route should be (to meet the new age req’m for exams):

Taking exams in April when they are :
      P1 - primary exam
      P2 - Grade 1
      P3 - Grade 2
      P4 - Grade 3
      P5 - Grade 4
      P6 - Grade 5

Thanks a lot a lot for this detail post..
This is what I would prefer my girl to achieve too.
But she will be p1 in jan 2014. Which is April, may only be taking a pre ballet or a pre primary exam which I don't even know which she will take. Or scarly maybe not even taking any...

If she is not even taking even a pri level in p1 April, then does that means, there is no way she can attain grade 5 by p6.

I think you do not need to start from scratch… Most school, even crestar, would allow the child to join a class appropriate to their age… at this level.

But of course, you must sign up ard mar/apr when they just begin their term for the new grade. Usually, exam coaching starts in term 3 ( beginning sep- Nov) and continue thru term 4(beginning dec -march), if you sign up during this 2nd half of the grade level, I suppose they will put you one level lower… Because they will deem that you will not be able to take the exam with the rest of the class.

By right, your girl should be doing primary level and taking the exam in April '14… That should be the ideal. But you had just signed up, term 3 and exam coaching will be starting soon… Hence, they put her in Pre-primary.
They will promote her with the rest of class next yr in april to primary grade.

              Hi nicnac,

I sure hope that the exam in April is for pre primary. So after that exam, she will go onto primary level starting May 2014 until April 2015, then take exam for primary, which by then she will be P2 Liao. So is it to say she cannot catch up to attain grade 5 by p6?

I was told oct to dec is term 4. Jan to mar is term 2.
So if judging fr what u say, I really doubt there will be coaching classes anytime from now till dec leh. Not that I know of as yet, coz hardly informant are provided to us parents to understand more. That's why I turn to this thread for more understanding...

              Hi miumiu,

              Thank you.
I will give them a call or drop by to visit look see the location.
I read many posting saying when one girl hops to another sch, their girl seem to have to downgrade one level and redo the syllabus again...so abit worrying.

For pre-primary levels, coaching class may take 3 months only…

Is she doing RAD or CSTD?

                  Hi nicnac

She’s taking RAD I think as per the email that the school replied me.
The sch mentioned, RAD pre primary.
But when I turned up for trial. It was titled as pre ballet class. So that’s when I got confused…why pre ballet?
Maybe like what you had mentioned, pre ballet to prep for the April pre primary exam?

I was hoping its a pre primary class taking the April primary exam…not possible right, given that it’s only like oct to march for preparation?

That’s why looking to see if there’s any other alternative which say can allow my child to at least in p2 April, take grade 1 so that can catch up to get grade 5 in p6 to try Dsa.

There is only One exam per yr for RAD.

There are TWO exams for CSTD. One in Mar and another in Sept.

I am not sure if you are in a class that will be taking the Sept exams instead… based on what you hv mentioned your calendar month sep-dec( as term 1) etc. If that is the case, then your gal will take the pre-primary exams next sep when she is in p1 and primary grade in sep when she’s p2… If that is the case, she is no longer 1 year behind BUT 1.1/2 yrs!

Oops my mistake… The above is not accurate… I got the term period wrong… Pls ignore!

Agree with you. That was what my child's ballet teacher advised too.
Pre-primary exam is K2. If the child learns ballet at a later age, she will be put in a lower grade compared to peers her age who started learning ballet earlier.

My K2 girl who is 6 this year will be taking her Pre-Primary ballet exam CSTD this Nov. ballet teacher will be the best person to advise if the child is ready to take ballet exam. In my child's ballet class at her current Pre-primary, there is a 7 years old, 8 years old, even 9 years old. I think those girls started late. Unless the child is exceptionally talented, the child has to start from scratch and progress through.

In the ballet exam form, there is a clause that states the child has to agree to attend extra ballet coaching for exam preparation. If teacher deems the child as not ready, teacher reserves her right to withdraw the child from exam even though exam fee is paid.
