      hi QuiteKSMum,

Thanks for letting me know this wonderful tip! Have been sourcing for such books for a long time. These mind mapping pictures are high level stuff. Provide an instantaneous high level bird’s eye helicopter’s view. Gives overall picture very fast. A picture speaks a thousand words! More useful than those concept maps.

to me, mind mapping pictures are ranked no. 1. Concept maps then ranked as no. 2. If you dont have these high level picture to help and guide you - once you enter the nitty gritty Science details, one can be lost, swarmed and overwhelmed, to digest so much Science info. Thank God for this very useful ksp forum. Your response is so quick! wow ! fantastic, baby! I love your quick response 🙂

i wrote in to Thum, based on email contact you gave us. Thum reply very fast within same day - that he got only limited copies left, he doesnt sell to bookshops, at $5 per book. So i order 1 copy, while stocks last.

Phtthp, this is good stuff.. thanks for sharing.

You can still recall quite a few stuff. :salute:

Know watcha mean.. pictorial information are usually more kid-friendly
and absorbed much faster than wordy content / lay-out. While we have
the in-depth information for Science guide books there has not been 1
with the misconceptions part of it where ambiguous concerns are being
answered clearly, without the need to dig from other guides for more
        information to check for accuracy.

This is like a guide book of science misconceptions if there is one around.
I only know a fellow forummer, Niedino is the one who shares such misconceptions
for free right here in KiasuParents. 😉 Mebbe Niedino is the lecturer who organized
        the seminar. *gasp*

Btw, i also ordered one liao but haven't gotten response yet. 😞

            4) Mushrooms are plants.

            answer: false.

Mushrooms are fungi, not plants. Fungi reproduce by spores.

Mushrooms are fungi, not plants. Plant makes it own food, but Mushrooms do not. Fern, which is plant, also reproduces by spores.

Year after year, booklist shows the same stupid and ridiculous  old titles...more appropriate for kindy teachers to show nursery-K2 kids.

For Science, it's hardly possible to stop at 4 assessment bcos of the new ones which keep appearing at Popular with questions which are 'challenging' and of course school exam questions are not the norm.

                      hi QuiteKSMum,

i think something not right with the link… can’t open to browse. So pm you instead, to forward visual map pic by email instead. Thanks, baby!

                      hi bebe,
thanks for adding on the extra explaination on fern part. Good! Helps clarification.

                      hi buds,

agree with you. My fundamentals are weak. Gosh! I din even know that
                      - whales are mammal, not fish.
                      - starfish is not a fish.
                      - seahorse is a fish.

i think it’s bec all these years, we were taught to remember science facts. From young, we were told … Science is based on memory. Rem, rem and rem facts!

then suddenly one day when teacher ask you a basic qn like … whales are fish - true or false? Suddenly i got thrown off course, just by a simple statement. Confused! got shaken. Bec my fundamentals is weak.

while one path is to rem Science facts (the common path), to me, this is another path of learning first… via misconceptions, high level mind maps, supplemented by concept maps. To begin with, having a high level picture in your mind is the best. Then later when drill down further into nitty gritty details, pupil dont get lost so much. Once students’ misconceptions are clarified, yes, then students go back to those usual Science textbooks, guide books, assessment books to study, to learn facts, to remember facts. Yes, then these facts help to reinforce the earlier misconceptions learnt. The pupil’s understanding grows deeper, memory retention stays permanently longer.

when students attend Tony Buzan mind mapping course at privately run Brain centres, it’s so expensive! Very often, even if the centre teach students how to mind map, usually it’s to mind map english essay compositions. Seldom do centres teach students how to mind map complex, heavy going Science topics like system, cycles, diversity, energy, matter, etc. Hence, this book recommended by QuiteKSMum, sold by Thum, is important.

gosh, you mean that Niedino lecturer is MOE Science guru … Ho Peck Leng, the author of so many main Science text used by many primary schools in SG ? possible, bec from the way Niedino answer parents in forum, can tell that he’s an expert. kekekekekekkekkeek
