Science Guide Books

Hi Janet,Hi Ladies,
Sometimes, it's not that we want to follow and get the latest Science assessment...but the format of exam actually requires we parents to be 'in sync' and be updated. Son brought home his SA papers and I must say I'm shocked with the questions. This June, I'm going to download OE questions and study them.
Yes the questions are very tricky - that's why it's good to practise using the top schools exam papers.
I always tell DD that the school cannot ask a question that is not part of the science syllabus. Thus even the foreign looking ones need to be linked to something she has learnt - a science concept. Thus the challenge is linking it to a concept and then explaning in a way that shows the marker she fully understands the concept. -

For OE questions, most of them are very very tricky and requires in-depth thinking...Agree with you completely...student has to understand and relate concept to answer question. Some of these were taken from SA2 papers. Cannot get answers from any guide book but have to use own words to explain...just like Eng compre.

Hi HappyMam
Hi Champion, Materials is from Page 59 to Page 78 (incl the thematic test) then followed by SA1.Champion:
Hi Happy Mama
Yea, though have many Science Assessment / Guide Books lioa but thought to get this one too as it is weekly topic by topic so easier for DD1 to do at her own pace
Sorry, may I check with you for the Book A - How many pages left for the topic \"Materials\"? I am still wondering should I get it so DD1 can try to do it
.....
:thankyou:
IMHO, I would suggest that you buy Book A too, since after Materials, you still have Energy, Light Energy 1 to 7, Heat Energy 1, CA2, Heat Energy 2 to 5, Thematic Test 2 and then SA 2. The last page of Book A is Page 176 and Plants, Animals and Fungi only takes up less than one-third of the book. Definitely worth it for $9.60 (before discount) and since can also use it for PSLE revision.
,
Thank you for detailed analysis of the Book; really appreciates your time & effort in doing so. :snuggles:
Think Book A is currently out-of-stock, I will have to make reservation with my nearest outlet (i.e. Jurong Point) to transfer from other outlet that still has the book.
Once again, :thankyou: :thankyou: -

Same thing i tell my DD too.
Hence the pressing need to guide with analytical skills. -
does anyone know of a good Science Assessment book for MCQ for P4 or even PSLE (topical approach)?
I need something that is challenging, that forces analytical thinking and not the usual testing of the facts kind of question. Iβve the Ultimate Science Workbook MCQ, but most of the questions there are just testing the memory kind of questions.
DS came back with his SA1 papers and after analysis, found that most questions (MCQ) there were analytical questions, so he didnβt fare too well, and some were downright tricky, which I thought was pretty unfair.
Anyway, I need to prepare him for future tricky questions of these nature. So Iβm on the lookout for assessment books with challenging MCQ. It can be pitched at PSLE level. Iβll just have to filter out the stuff he hasnβt learnt yet. -

Yes, the MCQs require more thinking now. Those 60 marks are very impt...I'll check out the PSLE MC Science (eagle on cover) shortly. Not only do I have to revise intensively with him for Section B (40 marks), but 1st section too.does anyone know of a good Science Assessment book for MCQ for P4 or even PSLE (topical approach)?

I haven't take close look at the recommended titles but I would appreciate your feedback if you do. My ds is on semi-auto-pilot mode for Science but still, no harm to know a good resource or two.
Hope this helps. -

I absolutely agree with this point. Eg. Which is the worst conductor of electricity? (Glass, copper, silver, graphite)does anyone know of a good Science Assessment book for MCQ for P4 or even PSLE (topical approach)?

Answer is graphite, because glass does NOT conduct electricity! :yikes: :faint: Is this a fair question at all? -

I haven't seen those titles recommended by Kenobi before. At least they're not displayed on Popular's open table section. I'll check it out.

It is a waste to lose marks in the MCQ area and those teachers are making it harder to score here.
