Help me to choose Samsung galaxy S, galaxy tab or iphone?
-
Thanks for the welcome and pointer.
Schooling used to be a fuss-free affairs but now it is causing stress amongst parents. I didn’t have to go through this with my 1st born.
But because I sold my place now I am about to go mad because of finding an affordable home vs finding a good school.
You are our salvation in this deep maze of education system. Thank you. -

You can go to any big singtel shop to try them out.
BB - more for email and corporate use, need to pay more for the email service.
Galaxy tab - is a tablet, need a bluetooth (ear piece) to make phone calls. It's big and not as handy as a mobile phone. Big screen good for surfing internet.
Galaxy S - runs on Android OS (operating system), can download apps
Iphone - runs Apple OS, can download apps.
You can find out more from this website.

Thks KSP. This web is helpful to me -
blackberry phones are generally “behind” and I believe for starhub and singtel you have to subscribe to some kind of blackberry data plan. galaxy S is very power efficient (read: “2012” caused by humans) and I believe can compete with the iphone. galaxy tab ain’t a phone practically because 1) you need earphones 2) it’s not designed to be a phone in the first place 3) if you don’t have earphones then I believe you have to put the whole tablet to your ear. the dell streak looks awkward enough so I can’t imagine the galaxy tab…

without debate. the iphone. no one challenges steve jobs creation.

Recently I almost bought an iphone. But then I came across the LG Optimus One running Android, it is free with the Smartsurf plan at Starhub. I decided to try it and I love it ! The Android OS is great to use, and best of all I don't have to pay $500 out of my pocket for the iphone. I highly recommend the LG Optimus One.

I recently bought an Andriod smartphone too and find it very user friendly with a lot of apps in the market place. Yes, iphone is shipping big time in volume but the Andriod OS that runs on a few other top brands like HTC, Samsung, LG and Sony E has 30+% users worldwide is No.1 in term of number of users.
I agree the competition now is only between iphone and Andriod phone.
This has left Nokia once the leader of handphone behind. Nokia is currently teamed up Windows to come out with a new hardware and software to make a comeback. -
iPhone, for the apps.

here's my take:
1) Galaxy S:
Pros:
a) big beautiful screen with super amoled display, which means colors are more vibrant than the iPhone. Resolution wise, iPhone beats the Galaxy S. However, it's not a big deal because at less than 4\", the difference is not that great a deal. Vibrant color is more important on a small smartphone screen.
b) has microSD card slot for expandability. If you're the type that likes to store tons of photos, music and videos on your phone, this is the clincher.
IPhone has zilch for storage expandibility.
c) has a removable battery. If you're the type that forgets to charge your phone on a daily basis, or who likes to watch videos on your phone for hours on end, just get the Galaxy S. The IPhone has a non removable battery, which means if you're low on battery juice, and you're not near a power point, you're dead. Forget about the dual battery pack for the IPhone, it's just too bulky, after all, you didn't buy the iPhone for it's bulk.
Cons:
1) well if there're pros, of course there're cons. :). First off, the phone lags, which means it runs slow when you load up apps on the phone. If you're the type that only has a few apps (<10), this is not an issue. If you're the type that must try all apps in the Android market place, the phone will lag after awhile. There are ways around it, but you've got to be a techie or someone who wouldn't mind spending hours on the web, learning how to root the phone to put in a new kernel. The IPhone is a lot better in this regards, it just works and it's performance is exemplary.
2) less apps than IPhone. For most people, this is not an issue. Most of the apps you really need are available in the Android market place. However, having said that, for specialized applications, like support for remote control of a music system, or a specialized technical application, such apps are only available on the iPhone. The companies who produces these apps do so only for their customers, and do not have the resources to port it to Android nor see the need to do so, as their target market is very niche, and most of their customers uses the iPhone anyways.
3) battery life isn't as good as the iPhone. The super amoled display was supposed to prolong battery life, looks like they didn't get the job done. However, you can always pop in another battery when the juice is low. Can't do that on the iPhone.
Galaxy Tab:
this is another form factor, you can't really compare a tablet to a smartphone. Every tried comparing apples to oranges ? The tablet is a lot bigger, and you'll really look silly trying to put a tablet to your face to answer a call. The tablet is a computing device that is less powerfull than a netbook (which is already a wimp in terms of computing power) and it's only claim to fame is that it boots up a lot faster than Windows. People think it looks cool, because everyone has been brainwashed by Apple. Steve Jobs liked his burgers upsized and did the same thing for his iPhone.
IPhone:
well, what can I say. Uncles uses it, grandmas, grandpas uses it, kids uses it, even the vendors in the wet market are using it. It works, it's fast and all smartphone apps ever written in the universe supports it.
It has the greatest accessories known to mankind and if you're the type who has to coordinate your jewellery with your mascara, your lipstick, your nail job, well the iPhone was made for you baby. For guys, the right iPhone accessories do go with your ties and belts and that piece of metal sticking out of your right ear, and of course, get the right iPhone case to go with your pants for the day.
For the engineering folks, who couldn't care less if if they're wearing sandles on the right foot and Nike on the left foot, I'll say give the iPhone a miss. Any heavy user of a smartphone will need additional battery juice and it's not nice to look around for a power socket when you're in the middle of a discussion.
For folks who uses the iPhone to let people know they're using the iPhone, well... there's only one word in their smartphone vocab and it's iPhone.
Let's not forget the micro SIM card that Steve Jobs is trying to popularize. If you travel a lot and buys local SIM card to save some money for your company, well, this phone is not for you. You can use a cutter to cut it to size, but I didn't pay top dollar to cut SIM cards to size. I'll rather use my time to write posts on forums like this...... -
Thank you, Zoan for starting this thread and cimman for the comprehensive review. Came in handy when I was deciding between Samsung Galaxy S and iphone 4.
Read a few other web reviews too and seems like each have its pros and cons. For a new user to smart phone, I wanted something affordable and easy to use for me to “play” with.
Have finally decided on the Samsung Galaxy S as the price is half that of an iphone and I will be getting my phone delivered this afternoon. Most of the cons mentioned by cimman are bearable for me (phone lag, less apps and battery life as I don’t think it should matter much to a new smart phone low-tech user). However, I am more worried about the user-friendliness. iphone is definitely more user-friendly and with so many friends using iphone around me, help is always just a phone call away.
KSP, did you buy the Samsung Galaxy S also? If so, can come to this thread to seek your help/advice. -
Welcome to the Android Club. :rahrah: Oh, I got a HTC. But it runs on Android. Remember to sign up a data plan as well. I'm sure there are a lot of Android phone users here who more expert than me. Well I will still share whatever I know here.
I saw a thread iPad \\ iPhone - Games : discussion here too. Perhaps you can start one on Android Apps/Games : Discussion or Club Android after you got your phone. That way you can have more opinions coming from different users. :celebrate:

BigDevil:
don't call it the poor man's iPhone. An Android phone is a smartphone in it's own right. In some ways, it is better than iPhone and in others, it will lose out. There's no perfect smartphone yet, not even the iPhone.tamarind:

You're paying top dollar for the iPhone because it is a monopoly, everything is owned by Apple. The Android phone on the other has a number of manufacturers making it, so prices has to be competitive. Thus, it is cheaper than iPhone and not because it is technologically inferior to the iPhone. In fact, from a hardware perspective, the iPhone is inferior to an Android phone because it does not support external storage cards and removable battery.
The only way to transfer data to the iPhone is through iTunes. If there is a hangup on iTunes, there goes the transfer function, whereas on an Android phone, one can always transfer data through a card reader with the micro SD card, which is pretty foolproof.
You're not el cheapo. Just an astute buyer who doesn't follow the crowd. It's a no brainer to follow the crowd, but few people have the courage and confidence to take the road less traveled. You're one of those exceptional people. Give yourself a pat on the back. -
Any comments on Sony Ericsson Andriod Smartphone X10?

Got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy S (Silver Platinum colour) last evening.
Spent most of last night doing the usual - insert sim card, charging, porting over contacts and items in my organiser.
Found it rather easy to use but I got to qualify that I am not really into customising my phone - so I just stick to the selection of wall papers, ring tones etc provided.
Most of the apps that I need are already there - News and Weather, Aldiko eBook, Task Manager etc.
Managed to access emails, download news from CNA (have problems downloading the apps for Straits Times - somethng like it doesn't support android phone). Managed to download an ebook (which my DD would love) and also apps like Currency Converter.
What I will need to figure out (and appreciate if anyone can share) is the charges for accessing internet/emails etc on the go. I've gotten a value dataplan which allows for 12GB of free data per month. Would like to know whether charges apply in the following scenarios:
1. When I access and surf/download information from the internet using the wireless connection at home?
2. When I access and surf/download information from the internet using wireless@sg.
3. Can I access the internet \"as and when\" (that is, outside of my house and wireless@sg spots)?
4. I am not a media heavy person (that is, almost never download songs, videos etc) and mainly access the internet to read emails and surf for news. Would 12GB/mth seems sufficient?
Paiseh if my questions do not make sense but seem too basic  -
Good to know there are so many choices. Have to wait till July to meet the 21 months requirement otherwise has to pay additional $300.00.

I’m also wondering which smartphone to get… still stuck with my nokia dumbphone.
$500 for a Iphone… with a normal dataplan… quite EX leh…
HTC Incredible S… any good?
The salesguy says 12GB plan is more than enough…
If I’m taking mobile broadband… I can use wifi right? Then I wouldn’t need high 3G data plan right?
Apps… I think most ppl play games only…
And I’m supposed to be entitled to change handset every year… and phones are not built to last nowadays…
