All About Maid's passport renewal

Hi,
Can anyone share with me the following information regarding renewing Maid's PP:
1) What is the interview of renewing Indonesian Maid all about? What kind of questions will be asked?
2) What is the contract in this forum referred to? Does the embassy ask the employer and maid to sign some contracts?
3) My maid passport expire in Sept 2013 but her work permit expired in Mar 2013. I know I have to renew the passport first as work permit depends on that as well. So am i right to say that I need to get ready her new passport by Jan 2013 so that we could renew her work permit by Mar 2013?
Thanks for your advice.
1) This blog posting by Tamarind has some info on interview at the embassy when they draw up the renewal of maid's contract.

For me, it was quite fast. The officer at embassy (level 2) asked me how many days off and how much salary. I told him 'zero' off days, but that the new salary of $x includes the compensation for no off days. He also asked my maid some questions in Bahasa Indonesian but mostly it was banter and chit chat.
2) For a copy of the contract terms, you can take a look at Tamarind's blog posting
http://singaporemaid.blogspot.sg/2008/02/renewing-maids-work-permit-and-passport.html
Picture of contract terms in English is here : http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_w1nyHWTEh94/SygKZbOKwPI/AAAAAAAABYg/jAaIdOPxIhc/s1600-h/DSCF7586.JPG
Note that the last clause states you as employer, has to bear the cost of passport renewal. Not for the maid to pay.
THe number of days and salary is keyed in by the officer, then they print out the English and Bahasa Ind versions for you and maid to sign. One original set of Eng and Bah Ind will go to you, another original set will go to maid.
Your maid needs to carry the contract back to Indonesia when she goes on home leave, in order to apply for the KTKLN card.
THere are some brochures abt the KTKLN card at level 2 of Indonesian Embassy. The lady at counter at level 2 will pass to you when she passes you the original sets of contract before you leave. But the brochure is in Bah Ind. It contains info on fee, what documents required, and places where they can do the KTKLN card.
3) Based on my personal experience, I think you can renew the passport around 1mth plus before WP expires. After you renew at the Indonesian embassy, there is abt 3 working days wait before you can collect the new passport. The MOM online application for WP renewal only allows you to do so 1mth before, and not earlier. So no pt doing passport early.
Additional info :
- Remember to wear pants/long skirt when you go to the embassy. Else they will ask you to put on their batok sarong skirt for modesty.
- You need to hand in an ID each for yourself and your maid to enter the embassy. And of course, if you have someone else accompanying you, then a card for each pax. Remember dont give your NRIC as you need it inside for renewal application. I handed in library card, and VIP shopping card. -

Oh dear oh dear! My helper has less than 2 weeks' validity for her work permit, does it mean I can't get the work agreement from the embassy cos the website states minimum 2 weeks' validity. Anyone with similar scenarios? I'm bringing her down with me tmr to renew her pp
Hi, care to share your experience so the other KSPs can learn? -

How soon can i renew my maid's passport?
Hi, I guess you need to consider against other factors such as maid's home leave, WP expiry date etc. The idea will be to maximise the passport validity period so you dont have to renew so soon again the next time -
Hi there,
I jus received the notice for renewal of my maid WP. My maid agreed to continue for another 2 yrs. Her WP expiring in Dec 2012, however her PP is expiring in Oct 2013. Do u think I should just renew her WP till Sep 2013 first or should I renew her passport and get a 2 yrs WP renewal.
I am also thinking abt the new ruling of weekly off-day which will be effective from Jan 2013. My maid do not want off-days. I heard, we need to pay $70 if she do not want off-days. Is this true?
Oh please… I need advice. -
Hi, can anyone advise where to collect the passport? Also take queue no?

Depending on which nationality she is and when in December the WP expires, it may already be too late to renew the passport first.Hi there,

For the off-days, given that this is a renewal you can just negotiate a salary with her to reflect the lack of off-days. If you want to play by the book then the way it should work is that you decide a monthly salary from which you calculate her daily rate which is salary/26 then compensate for that x 4.
eg If her salary is $400, her daily rate is $15 so you have to compensate her $60 giving her a total of $460.
I have just renewed by maid's contract and what I did was increase her salary from $400 to $450 (which I probably would have done anyway) then instead of her current 2 off-days I have told her that she can decide what she wants to do on Sunday. She can go out all day or half-day, stay at home or come with us to Church then to lunch. -
Hi,
I can’t find a proper place to ask this question, hopefully can get some advice and not out of context here.
My helper has decided not to go back to her country for home leave ( philipino). Past years, we normally let her go off for a full month. Any advice on what we should compensate her on top of airfare equivalent? Thanks. -

According to the contract you only need to compensate her for the airfare. It's up to you if you want to give her an extra bonus on top of that. Maybe take into account what you would have paid for the paperwork and for any help you would have needed while she was away e.g. if you have a part-time cleaner come in while she is away.Hi,

Thanks. I have also heard we need to pay half her pay on top of yhe airfare because if she stay behind, she will still help out with the housechores etc. Is it true?
