Tks, JonC, but er..., can share how to do it huh?
JonC:
Those with Samsung Galaxy S, must upgrade to 2.3.3 Gingerbread. It makes the SGS very fast.
-
The safest is to go to Samsung Service Centre if you have earlier batch of the phone, but you have to backup your data (contacts, sms, emails, etc) as it will be lost after upgrade.
You can also do it and home, by install a download Samsung software call http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as, for most of the later batch of the phone and you can choose to keep your data. Just follow the instruction. I have done it twice, once from 2.1 to 2.2 and from 2.2 to 2.3.3.
As for whether you can upgrade at home depends on the phone version, you can check with Samsung over phone. -
Tks, JonC. I have the KIES software so will try to see if can get it done later.

Check with Samsung if you phone is the later batch phones before you use KIES.
Wah, your DD is PSLE this year still got time to play with phone. -
Well, she is the one doing her PSLE. I just need to make sure I remember to send/fetch and cook healthy meals for her. Oh yah, also be her cheerleader and shoulder to cry on, otherwise sounds like a domestic helper hor...
On a more serious note, using my phone, I accessed Samsung Apps and there was a message to say that there is new updates. I clicked and allowed the new updates to be downloaded and installed to my phone. Is this the update you are talking about?
Paiseh if the above question is silly - it shows how \"well versed\" I am with my android phone and I have it for a few months already...JonC:

That is only Apps.
Gingerbread is the OS (the phone’s Operating System). -
cimman:
If you're just playing with your phone at home, just plug the USB cable into your phone and \"play\" with it. That way, you're charging the battery at the same time and there will be no battery drainage, no matter how long you play with it. Unplug it only when you bring your smartphone out of your house.
I juz bought a Galaxy S2. Will read through all posts for more tips.
Thanks cimman. This is a good tip for me as my kids will play on my phone till the battery almost flat. -

Boiling water? Boy that's bad advice, cimman. What if people actually do that and spoil their phone?cimman:
just to be on the safe side, I always recommend a 10 minute dip in boiling water every once a month, to get rid of the stronger virus strains.
Just remember to take the batteries out first or it's a trip to the manufacturer's service center.
Folks, don't listen to him. You need to boil your phones in alcohol at 100 degrees celsius, not water. Remember, 100 degrees hor, otherwise not effective. No alcohol can use Yomeishu. It can extend battery power.
