Wolfberry is very good for the eyes.

In 2007 i was beginining to develop lao hua yan( presbyopia) and i went to read about herbs and discovered wolfberry.
Since then, i have been drinking chrysanthemum tea with wolfberry.
Now in 2011, i still do not need reading glasses yet!

Yes, agree totally. If drink Chrysanthemum tea with wolfberry, it will help in eyesight a lot. Cheap and effective way. Just that some people wants easy and fast way. They don't understand that TCM works slowly.

Actually not that cheap, if you buy the good quality chrysanthemum flowers and the best grade wolfberry.
      I drink 1 L of the tea a day.
I also have been drinking Japanese tea for the last 15 years, also about 1L a day, so i don't drink plain water.

        Hi carebear,

not a lot of people are like you - willing to spend the money and time onthe herbal way to build up your health. šŸ™‚ In fact, a lot of people try to stay away from TCM.

Actually I don't consider what I am taking really TCM.
Cos it is just taking natural stuff.
For actual TCM medication, I am quite skeptical about its effectiveness.
However wolfberry effect on the eyes are being studied by Western doctors and may help in macular degeneration.

I boil a handful of chrysanthemum flowers with 1L of water.
Then turn off the fire and add in 2 teaspoon of wolfberries.
Let the tea cool and I put it in the fridge.
It is very refreshing to drink it cold.
Everyday I bring it to work in a flask.

Hi carebear, is it really so effective? I'm very keen to try. I was about to ask you how you prepare it when I saw this post. One question, after boiling for 10 mins, do you throw away the chrysanthemum before adding wolfberries? Or do you keep the 1 litre drink with the flowers.

Also, may I know what is considered good quality chrysanthemum? Not those pre-packed from Chinese medical halls? Where can we buy it from? Is it white chrysanthemum? Thanks much. šŸ˜„

It should be effective but as kwockwc has said, it needs to be taken long term regularly for it to be effective.
I don't think it can reverse lao hua yan, but it may help to delay further deterioration, like in my case, i must admit my eye sight is not as good as when i was young, but it has not deteriorated since 2007.

I turn off the fire after boiling the flowers, then i add the wolfberries and let it cool. Then i sieve the tea, ie throw away the flowers and the wolfberries and just drink the tea.

You can eat the wolfberries, but i find it heaty and i will get stomach discomfort if i eat the wolf berries.

Yup i get the chrysanthemum flowers from the chinese sinseh shop.
Look for the good grade ones like ęœµęœµé¦™ć€‚
I personally prefer this grade, ie it looks yellow and ugly and the petals are bigger than the white ones which look pretty. The white ones have a different flavour which i don't like, but the effects are supposed to be the same.
As for the wolfberries, I go for the largest and the best grade ones, which are sweeter, hence i do not add rock sugar to my tea.
Hope you will find this useful. Cheers. :celebrate:

Just 1 more question. Is there any reason why you add the wolfberries after you turn off the fire, instead of boiling them altogether to bring out the sweetness of the wolfberries? Is throwing in the wolfberries after we turn off the fire, enough to bring out the flavor of it?

Wolfberries contain lots of vitamin C, so to minimize the denaturing of Vitamin C, try not to boil it. šŸ˜„
The wolfberries i discard after steeping it in the tea are soft, so i should think the essence has been incorporated into the tea.
