COE trends

MMM,
looks like the Odyssey has aged, time to change and not to compromise the safety of your loved ones.
actually, some used cars less than two years old, low mileage and still under warranty could be a real good bargain.
of course the joy and experience of taking delivery of the brand new car is always different…but the depreciation for the first two to three years is always heart breaking and wallet breaking -

Great to hear that you have nicer experience than we did. We still have the receipts and reports. 3 months before the warranty over and 1 more 4 days after the warranty. 3 months is too short a time for a sudden 4 identified problems costing me $784. In the end we went normal workshop and was told some things are unneccsary at all paying $210. Subsequently we went there and clear 2 times car inspections no problems despite didn't go the repairs borneo motors say do. We have no complains with the service most times, but whether they really as sincere as their politeness and smiles... We respect your views, maybe we are just one of the very few who felt let down by borneo services...dicky,
my issue with Toyota has been on the Thai-built quality, never with Borneo services. Japan built is okay for me
the Thai made Camry gave me problems, so bad that their engineers flew in from Thailand and Japan to try fix the problem. that problem not resolved and i decided i have enough of toyota (30 years). for service however they always check for me for worn out parts before expiry of warranty and get them replaced for free, even call me to go down before expiry date of warranty
Anyway, off-topic for this thread on COE. Mine also thai-made no problem so far. COE high, maybe 2014 when pty rumours of a crash is true and affect car buying sentiments.... Ah-ha, just nice my car 10 years up...

I don't expect COE to fluctuate much from now on e.g. $10k, plus / minus. More like plus going forward. Given the state of the economy and the influx of affordable people, demand for cars will ensure firm levels of COE.
However, it's not all gloom news. If you're looking at long term, the differential in COE will not make much of a difference e.g. $10k spread over 10 years, will cost you less than $100 a month.
If you need to change car, my view is to buy used car. I'm talking about 1-2 years old, low mileage and mint condition ones. You saved bewteen $20k to $50, depending on the car. This would be much better that trying to time the COE.
I'm a used car fan, never believe in buying new cars. I even think new car buyers are \"suckers\". Over the years I've enjoyed good cars, with decent depreciation. And most of all, trouble free so far (touch wood :nailbite: ).
Choosing the car with due diligence, will definitely enhance your chances of getting a good car. Don't forget, even new cars can be lemons. There are some cars out there that are as good as new. Some years ago, I bought a 3-year old RX300, with mileage of 17,000km. Price tag $70k cheaper than new . . . why not ? We also need to enjoy life, every now and then !! :imcool: Drove it all the way until we don't need to bring prams and etc, before changing back to a sedan car. -

Yes you described it right. I totally agree with the comments on the joy as well as the good bargain. We ever did something stupid. When COE dropped to 14k, we sold our 2 yr old picnic for the current ody. Imagine the depreciation we had to bear.... :yikes: That's why with that, we are not so impulsive now and have to think and think and think.MMM,

COE just went up by another 6.7K today and the agent told me they are going to revise price tomorrow due to high increase :slapshead: :stompfeet:
I am so upset now..... I am currently travelling in India so didn't have time to attend to this at the beginning of the week. :stupid:   -
MMM,
if I were you, I would take a mint condition used car low mileage still under warranty
my present car is only one year old but i am itchy to upgrade but not willing to pay....so still looking for the dream car - low mileage, under warranty, cheap, and must trade in my present car with high profit ..... (go on dreaming .....) -
Actually I m driving a 2 years old Honda and its only $49000!! I am able to drive for another 8 years. Real bargain. So at this moment, I would encourage to buy used cars. The car looks new and has low mileage and trade in value is high for Honda.
To me cars are just a mode of transportation. I don’t bother about it but the brand do matters because I don’t take good care of cars, so I need a reliable one. I don’t even know I have a flat tyre until people tell me. That’s how bad I am with cars. -
Are you driving a BMW, with run-flat tyres

Was just talking to my bil over the weekends and he was telling us to avoid 2nd hand car for now... As dunno how many have been submerged in the recent Tanglin flood. -
MMM:
you should be able to get it verified by the agent if it is still under warranty

tell tale sign would be the carpet. if it is replaced wholesale, then it is suspect -
Most of all, avoid the high end cars as Bukit Timah richer people… Unlikely drive japan, korean cars…
