MintyMin:
Maybe tell him to spell or write the tingxie char, a fixed number depending on the total number of words, for you to see everyday?Morning Everyone..
DS has homework.. but usually only 1 to 2 pages that he can easily finish at Student Care.. so bak home is to revise tingxie and spelling mostly.. i dun even have time to revise wif him.. cham..
So for example, Monday spell for you 4 words or tingxie 2 char, so on till the day of spelling/tingxie.
In this way, the responsibility is on him to show you and the task is divided into manageable portion. The day before spelling and tingxie, he will have to spell for you the whole list. -
SAHM_TAN:
Sahm_Tan, yes tatz wat we do.. almost like spending a whole week on it juz for the ting xie (both sch & TH) and spelling to learn.. at least now spelling n sch ting xie not taking up as much time to learn as compared to his TH one..Maybe tell him to spell or write the tingxie char, a fixed number depending on the total number of words, for you to see everyday?

CCA/remedials start next year. I found out yesterday that the transport providers at my DS’s school don’t provide any service after CCAs/remedials because each CCA and each remedial ends at a different time, resulting in a low number of students per trip.
The parents/guardians/caregivers/domestic help either take the children home, or the children go home by themselves.
This won’t work for me. My DH and I work fulltime, caregiver is too old, we are planning to drop domestic help and bus/MRT routes not direct so my DS will get easily confused.
Don’t know what to do… -
I am certain schools could do better. Plan and allocate fixed days for CCA & timing. It is near impossible for all parents to fetch their kids. Some kids stay hours after CCA to catch the evening bus. So tiring for them. Whole day at school and most wake up around 6am or earlier.

Oooo.. we are fortunate that the BASC is ok to pick them up after the CCA lessons...
In fact, my boy's CCA starts tomorrow cos he has chosen to join CO last year.. as his CCA

Maybe you find out the weightage for spelling and tingxie, if not too much then leave it to him to manage. Let him write out the words/chars for a number of times while in BASC, and show you the work. Then you have some time to work on other extra stuff or other hw. -

Are CCAs/remedials compulsory? If not, then give it a miss next yr. Alternatively, befriend a sahm/caregiver who has a child with similar schedule and stay nearby to your address to help you pick up your ds.CCA/remedials start next year. I also heard of pple who help to run errands for others. You can interview a few to find one trustworthy and help you to pick up your ds. Or engage a taxis driver on a regular basis to pick up your ds.
Another possibility would be to lobby for change, there must be similar case like yours. -
jacplace, is your home far from the pri sch? what happens on normal days though or maybe you can consider BASC near the school?
