I agree. Singapore employees have to bear some responsibility for this so called 'hiring of foreigners trend'. Though I will say that it has been blown out of proportion. πŸ˜“ Jialat gonna get hantam for saying that.

Ok, wrote too much oredi. Gonna kenna πŸ¦† .

It's easy to just give a vague account of how difficult it is to employ locals..

Why don't you state what are the job scope, working hours and the salary that you're paying to allow viewers to better judge the situation?

Let the facts speak for itself.

There are companies offering $900/mth for 10hrs working hours in some ulu places and complaining that they cannot find local workers. How you expect locals to survive on $900/mth?

Is locals asking for too much?

I am referring to S pass. S pass require a minimum of $2000 as starting salary. Talking about 9hrs x 5 work day with all the annual leaves, performance bonuses, AWL, etc. My operations are not located in ulu places, they are all near MRTs. Those that are a bit more ulu as in not within walking distance from MRT, we provide transport allowance. Even then we are not talking about Jurong island, just some private estates.

I throw back the same comments to you. Easy to make vague accounts about how employers choose foreigners over locals. Why don't you state what are the job scope, working hours and the salary that these companies are not paying the locals but hiring the foreigners. Let the facts speak for itself too.

Are some locals asking too much or being too picky.

There is always 2 sides to a coin. For every anecdote that one can come up for one story, there will be others who will be able to tell another opposing story.

I am not saying that there aren't people who are truly experiencing difficulties finding placement due to competition from foreigners, I wondering is the so called 'favouring' of foreigners as employees truly so prevalent that the majority of locals' lifelihood is threatened? Or is it a sentiment and resentment as the pickings for the locals are now leaner since there is competition for them from these foreigners?

It is easy to always point our fingers at external sources for our woes but I think we should bear some responsibility as well.[/quote] :yikes: So if employees are to be blame, then what about the education system here, since we locals study here?

I don't think it has anything to do with the education system but it is a sign of the progress made in Singapore.

30 years ago, a job was a gift, no one would think of rejecting a job due to long travel distance. I remembered how poor we were and how elated when Dad (sole breadwinner) landed a basic security job in Jurong when we lived in Whampoa. Dad worked 3 shifts and after 2-3 consecutive night shifts, he gets 1 day off. So our family worked our family time around his schedule and planned outings on his off day (which usually does not coincide with weekend).

Today, Spore has become more affluent and people want to pursue quality of life and become choosy. Fact is you can only afford to be choosy when you don't have to fight for survival.

We need to appreciate that some of the foreigners from Philippines, Bangladesh, PRC, are at a different stage of development. They have the determination and mindset to improve their lot, come what may - the same mindset my parents had.

Nothing wrong with Sporeans or the foreigners in this regard but need to appreciate we are at a different stage of development.

Fact is, our leaders are exposes it's citizens to compete with foreigners at a \"different stage of development\", isn't it akin to asking your own citizen to suffer?

Well, actually, for the good of the country, or whatever, IF the leaders can Lead by example, I believe the citizens would \"believe\" in them and bite the bullet..

They say, \"Welcome the competition and embrace the challenges that comes with it\".. Why don't they abolish gerrymandering and welcome the competitions from Opposition candidates?

They say, Be cheaper, better, faster and bite the bullet.. Why don't they peg their salary to the citizen's median salary?

If they walk the talk and lead by example, there would not be so many unpleasantness on the ground, probably....

If someone say one thing and do another, how to earn respect?

My point is affluence has breed a generation which has an unwarranted sense of entitlement. My parents and people their generation are aghast at the attitudes of people today - no one owes you a living. The tirade against foreigners isn’t going to make the competition go away whether in Spore or elsewhere. Being developed does not mean we can sit back and shake leg and live in a little artificial world keeping out the competition. Such a world is not possible in any case even for US let alone a little red dot like us. All the more we need to stay ahead to remain developed. All it takes is some humbling and capitalize on the qualities which brought us here and we will be fine.

Yes.. if the leaders can lead by example, it will unite the pple and bring us forward..

However, more often then not, what we can see is \"get out of my elite uncaring face\" attitudes..
