Parents doing projects
-
I think this is really dependent on the situation at hand. Not many parents will sit back and let his kid go into a tizzy over something that could be beyond his head. It could end up very discouraging for the child. But the other end of the spectrum where a child turns out a very polished work…worthy of a professional - that one I will tsk tsk.

OK. I confess. I helped my dd do her art hw/project when she's in pri sch. Anyway, she doesn't like art and art is not important, so I did it for her. Then she can use the time to do other hw. The tr didn't know I did it because my art is really bad, looks like it's done by a student.

I'm guilty of that too...hubby helps son with his art and social studies work. Otherwise he will have to sleep very late. Sometimes I will help him to check up meanings of the words and he will have to copy them (cannot type). Recently, there was a social studies project where he has to find out more info about Singapore's presidents. Hubby went online to help him get pics and print them. -
IMO, the thought process in coming out with the project ideas are more important than actually doing it. I may provide ideas or give feedback but I want my kids to be the ones to come up with what they want to do. I may help out with some hands - on work if they are running out of time. If not, they should be the ones doing the projects. I always tell my kids I have \"been there, done that\", so I shouldn't be doing them.

DD2 in K2 has this book call \"WORD BANK\" book where the kid is required to write all the words they know for certain alphabet. For eg, \"A\" she has to write Aeroplane, Apple, August...etc....
Not only has to write but to draw the pic! The kid is expected to write at least 25 words so that mean 25 pics. She will finish writing the word but by then she will be a bit tired and :snooze: and grouchy. So, mummy - has to confess - helps with the drawing and coloring. I hate to draw but in order for her to submit her h/w, I hape to push myself to do it!

My daughter had to draw and colour the picture matching the CL character in the first half of this year. She didn't mind doing the writing part, but not the drawing. I hate to draw too...bcos my chicken and duck looks the same  my 'best' is drawing an apple. -

You're kidding ? K2 has to write 25 words ?
So, I literally has to take out the Dictionary and help her if she can't come out with the 25 words for that certain alphabet.

For a K2 child I think I would have just told the teacher it was too much or done as much as she could then left it and written a note to the teacher. They aren't going to punish them at that age....sometimes we are too scared to question teachers. We are the parents and we do have rights, especially in K2 when you are paying a lot of money!

My DD in nursery, they need to do scrab book. The T never say how many.Sometimes, rare to find pictures for some alphabet. Then I paste one pic or draw 1 picture. This has no marks. My DD that time she didn’t know more words and I can’t push her to learn. They have to paste and read the words in the school. That time I draw for her cos she doesn’t know how to draw. Then I teach her how to draw the pictures. Then she slowly learned. We can guide them how to do and help them depend on their age.Better way is teach them how to do,but we can’t teach in an emergency situation. They need sometime to learn.
My son in P3.He had a music project. He did by himself. He didn’t ask any help from me.He researched by himself. He do with his two other friends. -

The principals are afraid to be blamed for not preparing kids for P1, so they literally drill the K2s. :siao:
Last year, my daughter's 听写 was even tougher than P1 level :stompfeet: she had to learn 8 词语, which is equivalent to 16 个字.
I didn't want to push her too much or she would be afraid of P1. Older son also attended the same kindy and he told me quietly the principal has gone nuts :rotflmao:
