Sight reading is one of the component during the grade test.
In the exam, candidates will be given a short interval of up to half a minute to look through a piece of song and require to perform it for assessment. -
wah so fast! half a minute !
this test start which level - from grade 1, or at much higher level ?

In fact most kids find theory more difficult. Theory in music is not only about memorizing, you must truly understand the concepts. There are many things that cannot be memorize like transposing, composing, etc. You either know or don't know. No such thing as you can anyhow put in an answer. -

Yes, this test starts from Grade 1.wah so fast! half a minute !

Practice make perfect! By doing more sets of past year paper then the possibility of score a merit or distinction is still achievable!
BTW, DD's piano teacher just brought us a good news that DD has scored a Distinction on this March's Grade 5 theory test!

Congrats! Of course those children doing western musical instruments should find theory much easier than those who do chinese instruments. My elder ds just received results too and missed Hedy Robinson award by a point. Sore! haha!phtthp:
