how come some kids find Theory more difficult than Practical ?

In fact most kids find theory more difficult. Theory in music is not only about memorizing, you must truly understand the concepts. There are many things that cannot be memorize like transposing, composing, etc. You either know or don't know. No such thing as you can anyhow put in an answer.

Practice make perfect! By doing more sets of past year paper then the possibility of score a merit or distinction is still achievable!

BTW, DD's piano teacher just brought us a good news that DD has scored a Distinction on this March's Grade 5 theory test!

Congrats! Of course those children doing western musical instruments should find theory much easier than those who do chinese instruments. My elder ds just received results too and missed Hedy Robinson award by a point. Sore! haha!

Centre? Not sure if you are staying in the area ... Teacher Mrs Kellie Khoong from Music Workshop along Thomson Road is very experienced and familiar with and good in drilling kids with the MEP syllabus. Quite a number of SNGS MEP girls go there.

but then i'm sure your kids always get high distinctions in their practicals.. kekeke..

it's the first time i heard of this award, so i googled it.
may i know if it's very much more difficult to get Distinction in music theory for Grade 6 - 8 then for the lower grades?

reason for asking is that ds has been getting distinction for up to Gd 5 theory (seems that lots of people do). then he skipped going for Gd 6 when he started secondary school, to make more time for schoolwork and CCAs. he'll be taking Gd 7 theory this year. wonder if got any chance for the award...
