Q&A - PSLE Math
-
James Ang:
some keep counting marks again and again to see how much they can get and whether there is still hope for A and A*? I think it is normal reaction.
Hi James,
Can't do the same for PSLE, though. papers will not be able to be seen! I'm sure though that if they had worked hard, they will be able to at least get an A, or a low A*. -
Oh wow, they fainted? The worst thing I heard was some suffered mental trauma and were very depressed after their exams
I aslo heard that from a friend. his employee told him that in his daughter class, there were some girls who fainted during the maths paper. and guess what.....is from a elite school.
I asked,'' really fainted or just wanna to faint?\" he replied,\" yes, phyically fainted\". don't know how true was it. -
Poor kids, I hope the question setter read this !

I don't know of anyone fainting, but I know of a girl who took a nap during the paper because she gave up on it. Maybe people thought she fainted? -

Then why do we need school teachers? They are suppose to ensure the children are well prepared for PSLE. Parents can only support teachers to ensure their children complete their homework. Parents have to go and work also. Unless the parents are not working and do home schooling with their children. Then again, if parents do not have the knowledge to do it better send to school and let the professionals teach them.Hi all!
Is there any course which teaches parents how to coach upper primary kids to tackle difficult sums? -
Argh! This exam is so hard. I was stumped when my son showed me the questions that he did not noe how to do/or was not sure!

Agree that no marks will be given for modals but working marks will be given for equations. I have been teaching fr the past ten years and have experience in PSLE marking, so I know. There was a forum letter asking if algebra can be use in exams ... The letter was dated Feb 2007 but I am certain MOE's has not change their stand. I have posted the letter on my website http://www.teacher.janicechuah.com

Just wanted to ask, is this elite school RGS or MGS? If not, which elite school is this? And, maybe some people were just closing their eyes for aprivate moment or to try to remember everything they have learnt... -
Because of this year’s PSLE questions. I found out though the school have introduce algebra to the students, they have not really teach them how to use algebra.
Its like introducing the fishing rod to them and not teaching them to fish? What is the point right?
Since now they allow algebra method to be usable in primary school standard, why not teach them now right?
I have solve some of the PSLE questions using algebra method and I am using them to teach my P5 (going P6 next year) students now. (If you want the suggested workings of algebra please feel free to PM me and I will send you the suggested answers.)
Just my 10 cent worth opinion. -

Many schools are not willing to go too much into algebra. Once, I heard that a boy from a school wrote an accurate algebra working on the board for a question and the teacher screamed at him, telling him that this was not the correct way and that in the PSLE, he could his own \"stupid\" workings and get 0 for the question! Positively shocking!!!
