I wouldn’t recommend 3rd lang for people who feel so-so about the new language. Unless you are very interested, most likely you’re going to drop out soon. My jap class used to have abt 20 ppl. Now only left with the mixed blooded half jap people and those really crazy about jap. Usually people drop out cuz it’s really hard to learn and you may be listening for the whole lesson but not understanding.

Absolutely, Malay is a good 3rd Language to take. It is one of the easiest (hence, very manageable) and allows for 2 bonus points during the Os (provided you do sufficiently well).

Yes, for 3rd Lang, you must be REALLY passionate about it. Either that or be a true blue linguist hahas. Look up on the culture and see what fascinates you. Which is why I have gripes with MOE not making Russian a viable 3rd Lang. Russian Lit is really intriguing, especially Chekov’s! My remaining Jap friends are Otakus hahas.

DD just told me that she wants to study Japanese as a third language.

She was given the option to do a third language but did not apply during the S1 option phase.

Can anyone please advise how do I go about applying?
              TIA.

Hi, with a aggregate score of 246, do you think i shlld take up Malay as third- language? Please HELP!!

My child got 248 but we did not opt for 3rd lang even though sec sch is offering as my child very weak in 2nd lang already.

I think all parents need to consider child's interest, locality of 3rd lang centre, child's strength, etc. Sec sch has too many subjects to cope. For our case, we feel that our kids can take up 3rd lang at a later stage of their lives if they are interested.

Not sure if this is still useful. DS also had the same problem. I called up moe language centre at bishan, a few days ago. They asked me to go down to apply as late applicant. I saw on the form, can apply in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012, so you can still apply, subject to vacancy.
