      Dream High:
Hi, with a aggregate score of 246, do you think i shlld take up Malay as third- language? Please HELP!!

My child got 248 but we did not opt for 3rd lang even though sec sch is offering as my child very weak in 2nd lang already.

I think all parents need to consider child's interest, locality of 3rd lang centre, child's strength, etc. Sec sch has too many subjects to cope. For our case, we feel that our kids can take up 3rd lang at a later stage of their lives if they are interested.

DD just told me that she wants to study Japanese as a third language.

She was given the option to do a third language but did not apply during the S1 option phase.

Can anyone please advise how do I go about applying?
        TIA.

Not sure if this is still useful. DS also had the same problem. I called up moe language centre at bishan, a few days ago. They asked me to go down to apply as late applicant. I saw on the form, can apply in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012, so you can still apply, subject to vacancy.

I think if you do, it would be better to let the teacher know and see if it is approved. I don't think any teacher would like everything they say to be recorded and played back at home. It is a matter of courtesy.

Gems, you made a very wise choice. I took up French when I went to Sec 1 and the distance to the centre completely wasted a good part of my school week. Many of my classmates gave up after 1 or 2 years but I faithfully stuck to it. In the end, my other grades suffered and I did not get to use much French in real life.

My son starts Sec 1 this year and I advised him to choose the Malay Special Programme instead. At least we can use the vocab to shop at Geylang Serai or Tekka market !! 😉 😉

I put up a late application and received the news earlier today that the application is successful for Japanese. Anyone know if we need to pay any fees for third language? Thanks.

The 3rd lang fees are completely free, but you have to buy the text books which are very expensive cos they are imported.
