We paid $150 for 4 lessons. Grade 2. Lessons at teacher's house. What's the market rate for a beginner student learning at teacher's home like 45 mins a session??
Very hard to say what's market rate. The range seems quite huge?
My dd's ex-classmate learning from another music teacher who goes to her house. Only $90/mth according to her mum. -

It all depends on teacher's experience and qualifications. Qualified but not very experience is usually minimum $30/hr. It ranges up till $60-70 for degree and very experienced teacher.

I’m very disappointed with this music school mandeville, my girl has been learning piano since last year… She like her teacher… Unfortunately the teacher had resigned… The school arranged a newly joined teacher to teach my girl… Well it did not end up well… She talks very loud… Cannot communicated well becos of her accent… Her notes were very messy… My girl could not understand what she wants…
So I feedback to the school, and get them to change to another teacher however they could not find any available teacher to teach on weekend…
I am very frustrated with their arrangement… What happen to this school? It used to be a good music school.
Anyone has the same experience as me? Very headache to find a teacher that can teach my girl on weekend… -
It’s always a common problem with music schools - so many teachers and such different ones too (in terms of standard and naturally, character). Turnovers are also a problem. Most teachers who are with music schools are either newbies (not enough students privately or want to gain experience) or those who are loyal and have worked there for some time. And there are those like me, helping out once a week at my friend’s music school as she needs teachers.
Mandeville is relatively big considering it has no branches. There are many students and they aren’t bothered about loosing some here and there… I know the principal personally, and really, she does find it difficult to get teachers… -
I guess many music schools have problem hiring teachers, however I believe it all comes back to the teacher’s personally and mindset. Its very important to make sure the student have a good foundation if it’s a beginner and also bring the student to a higher level if she played for some time already.
Personally I have some students are transfer case (privately). They have problem with reading notes and their technique wise not good which made them waste their time learning again… -
Can’t agree more, Snowiebob, a good foundation is so important and sadly, many take the “express route” and read fingering instead of notes!

Hi
I dont think I want to waste my time waiting for Mandeville to get back to me with regards to the available teacher that can teach on Weekend.
How long do I need to wait? Feel like writing a strong complain letter to the school.
My girl is very good with Theory, and she play quite well, the ex-teacher actually wanted her to take Grade 1 exam this year.
At the meantime, if anyone has good Piano teacher or music school to recommand, please let me know.
Thank you so much!! -

Hi, actually all music schools have the same problem and I guess it's 'luck' if you get a really good teacher you like if you are in music school. Because all teachers there are trained by the sch itself so they have similar training, only thing difference is experience and patience.Hi

Probably you can share where do you stay and I believe the teachers here will respond? I'm teaching in the north area, so if you need any help you may pm me! -

All 3 teachers who used to teach my dd in her previous music school had left. I heard teachers need to sign a 2 year contract & most left after the tenure is up.Hi

I believe most music teachers hope to expand their pool of private students. Afterall music schools only pay teachers a fraction of fees collected whilst private students pay direct to teachers, no 'middle man'
If that music school teacher is good, I suppose you can continue to engage her to teach. Unlikely she totally quits teaching piano -
Hi sleepy
thanks for the feedback, I chat with my girl she want her ex teacher to teach her. I spoke to her my problem with the music school. She was shocked also…
I feel that teacher play an important role. The child interest in music depends on how the teacher interact with the child.
So far, I have no complain about her previous teacher. She is good in handling kids…neat works.
