[ That's not true. If the parent feels so strongly about placing the child back in mainstream, she can definitely do so. The choice is the parents'.
jtoh is correct. There are students that switched fr GEP back to mainstream in the midst of p4 program. -

Hi My DS also in, but the teacher didn't announce how many of them were selected. I saw right lower corner of the letter with the school code then a number 16. Anyone know is this a serial number or the total of the round 2 student? He is from the neighborhood school in the East.
Maybe papakiasu, octoberbaby, kgaihc, kipper or 24hr_mum can help to confirm the figure on the test slip based on their knowledge of how many students in school getting in for selection test? -

I agree to a certain extent, but at the end of the day, why are all of us mummies here? why is this forum even called 'kiasuparents'? this clearly reflects the mindsets that most singaporean parents have already. it is very hard to curb.sunnymumsy:
Heard that the top scorers for PSLE are generally not from GEP... if that is the case, what's the point of GEP apart frm prestige? Can someone enlighten me? How will it help a student?
The top scorers in any football league are never the goalkeeper. So why even play football if you are a goalkeeper??
PSLE is just one small part in our academic journey, dear. -
Just4Fun:
Will that be disruptive? They will either change school or change class, right? If can, that'd be good. Can let dd try awhile and see if she likes it... but it's not so nice of me to do that as well, it's wasting a space that another child can have. Hmmm.jtoh:

You won't as there will be no replacement if you reject the offer.

I am quite sure that number is not the total of round 2 students, it should be the serial number for that particular school. Reason being heard that there are about 80 children qualified for round 2 from his school and the number on DS's slip is way smaller than 80.kiasurian:

Right now, it’s only first round. From years of observation, Students who make it are the ones who generally do well academically in schools, perhaps the top 5-10%. But we also see a minority of students with average performance in class scoring well to get into the second round.
The second round testing for GEP is another question. The questions are specially crafted to test a student’s creativity in thinking and problem solving skills. They want to attract students who think out of the box, who use good logical and analytical skills and are good problem solvers. It is not a test whereby you can train the students to perform. It’s either you have it or not. Understandably, those who get through the final round are not necessarily those that top the school’s cohort and are academically inclined. You be surprised that quite a number are just average students and the top students are not selected for GEP instead. This is the baffling part about who gets chosen for GEP. MOE is looking for students with the ‘X’ factor thus making them suitable for the GEP.
If your child has the cut, they will make it through the last round.
