Hi all. I am a student. I got 261. I put RGS as 1st choice and NJC as 2nd. Is it risky? Shld i change and put NJC as first choice?
It's ok. If RGS COP goes up, you will sure end up in NJC. If you are not happy with the posting then you might want to appeal.
I assume your MTL is not Chinese or you did not take HCL, else you might want to consider NYGH. -

Anyone knows if the affiliation COP is pre-determined and communicated by the school before the posting process? That is, as at this moment today, the affiliated students already know the COP of their own school. Can any parent of any affiliated student confirm this pls?
must first qualify for the affiliation COP.....if not, even if put first choice, will not get priority even if from feeder school....mitchy:
hi
Does anyone know anything about affiliation? if child is from an affiliated primary school, does that mean she will get first priority if she puts the affiliated sec school as 1st choice? Will there be a case where she is not considered? Please advise.
Thanks
Or is there some formula used by the school to determine the target affiliation intake to non-affiliation intake ratio, and the affiliation COP is determined from this formula applied to the actual demand from affiliated students? That is, the affiliation COP would only be known on 19 Dec, same as the non-affiliation COP?
I'm thinking that if it is the first way, then for the new IP schools, since the number of O level track classes are cut by half, most of the reduced O level track places would already be taken by the affiliated students who have a lower COP than the non-affiliated ones?
Thanks -

There is no risk. You have 6 choices & it is base on merit. If you don't get into your first choice, you will end up in your second. Priority is given to those who have higher score & not put as 1st choice.CatFlight29938:

Hi
Anyone staying in the north?
I would like to know if AMK Sec or CHIJ st Joseph is better in terms of academic, culture and school programs?
Prefer CHIJ St Joseph’s but am very concerned taht they are a Band 8 school.
Only left with 1 choice and I want to choose a school with 230 COP and below, and cannot decide which one of these to choose for my DD.
Thanks. -
Does anyone know which one is better, Anderson or crescent girls?

Is the affiliation COP announced before the exams cast in stone, or is it just a rough indicative number? That is, is the ultimate, final, affiliation COP=the COP announced before the exams?
As far as I know, most school make known the affiliation COP well ahead of the exams. This means that any student who gets that score or above is assured of a place in the sec school if they put the school as 1st choice. If they put the school as any other choice, they lose the affiliation advantage.
I don't know whether there are schools which limit affiliated students to a certain number.
I'm also not sure how the COPs will be affected by the new IP tracks in such schools. On the one hand, while it is true that 'O' level track places will reduce, but on the other, the stronger students from the affiliated Pr school(s) are likely to opt for the IP track and there may be less competition for the 'O' level places.
I did a computation for one of the new IP schools, assuming that the affiliated students with t-score 250 and above make up 10% of the school cohort. If the COP is cast in stone, then according to my computations based on the no. of classes available for \"O\" level, there are no more/minimal vacancies for non-affiliation students! I really hope my computations are not correct... -
Hello, I am new to this website. My boy has 243. Wanted SJI .Will COP raise by 2 points or more :heresmyfish: in other years as I am not aware of the trend... Can he get in SJI becos;
1) Dragon year, more competition
2) IP- invite more attention for those 245-255 students to apply to get in, so COP may raise for O level
3) 4 classes are given to IP, so lesser classes for the O level. COP will raise
So worry cannot get in, anyone can advise further? -

Dear kokomummy, no one can really predict what will happen for this year sec selection. As you can see, most of the better schools are offering IP and cut the O level classes by half. You are right to say that it will be a more competitive years as there are more \"dragons\" . On the other hand, there may be less applicants too as the school fee is about $290+ and will turn some awayHello, I am new to this website. My boy has 243. Bonnie:
How does the MOE computer selection work? it mean that my chance gets slimmer as it goes down the 6 choices. Meaning if I select a school X and put 3rd choice, my chance is reduced cos School X is someone else's first choice?
Does it work that way? Would appreciate some kind soul advice as that would affect the ranking of my choices
Thanks
This is really a ' trying ' issue. Summary from the fruitful discussions and with reference to the moe gray book. Basically 2 steps in the selection process as follows:-
Step One - The computer will select the T score of all students on a descending order basis - from the highest T score to the lowest T score.
Step Two - After step one, the computer will next move on to select the schools on based on the T score selected regardless of the choices made.
Using Bonnie's example, assuming the T score for both is 230. If the COP for school X is 230 and is your child's 3rd choice as oppose to someone with the same score but is his 1st choice. The chances for both are equal. To quote MOE - It is still merit before choice.
Of more concern is the number of places allotted for the sec 1 cohort and whether the sec school concerned has an affiliated primary school. Naturally, many of the students will proceed to move on to the sec school with a preferred ( lower ) T score thus reducing the number of places for the sec 1 cohort in the school for other non affiliated schools, thus limiting your chances. Cos I stand corrected.
Good luck ! -
Hi all

Could you please help if this list will work out?
1. Crescent (COP - 243) - as my DD is longing for this school, I want to give a try for it…
2. Swiss cottage (COP - 235)
3. Common wealth (COP - 236)
4. Clementi Town (229)
