      ks2011:

Posting is based on merit. Sequence of your choice does not matter. The T-Score has many decimals and hence chance of 2 students fighting for that last seat based on the same T-score is very low.

I quote from the MOE website: The posting of pupils to secondary schools is based on merit according to three criteria: pupils’ PSLE results, their choices of schools and the vacancies available in the schools.

You have misunderstood its meaning. The choice of schools here refers to your preference. MOE will try to place your child in a school of your choice. If 2 of them have the same score, the digits (e.g 255.999999) behind the decimal will determine who gets in. If it still a tie with the same unrounded score, then it will be determined by a computerised ballot. Pls read page 8 of the grey book, under School Posting Phase.

Choice of schools here refers to preference, doesn't this imply that someone who placed School A as their first choice will be given priority over someone who places School A as their second choice, given that both have the same T score?

They will try to put you in your first choice school. However, priority is given to the one with a higher score. According to the grey book, it is still merit before choice. Are you a student or a parent? You will understand better when you or your child takes PSLE. Don’t bother to crack your head if you still don’t get it.

            This is the correct understanding.

Choice of school matters because if I put school A as my first choice and school B as second choice, as long as my T score meets school A’s COP, I will be posted to school A, even if my T score is higher than school B’s COP, I will not be posted to school B.

What’s the chances of getting to Duman High School with T-Score 250 + 2 as first choice?

                    Reply from MOE:-

We wish to share that for the Secondary 1 (S1) posting exercise -
the posting of students to secondary schools is based on merit, according to the following three criteria:

                    1) Students’ PSLE results;

                    2) Their choices of schools; and

                    3) The vacancies available in the schools.

                    For example:
                    Student A

                    Aggregate Score = 230

                    First Choice = School X

                    Second Choice = School Y

                    Student B

                    Aggregate Score = 228

                    First Choice = School Y

                    Second Choice = School X

                    Student C

                    Aggregate Score = 234

                    First Choice = School X

                    Second Choice = School W

A child who has performed better in the PSLE will have priority over another child who has not performed as well. Based on the above example, the students will be ranked in order of merit, i.e. Student C, Student A and followed by Student B.

The first student will be admitted first, subject to the availability of vacancies in the selected school. The second student will then be considered. If there is no more vacancy, the second student will be considered for his next choice school - again subject to the vacancies available in that school.

Based on the above example -
Student A will be admitted into School Y. If there are still vacancies in the school, then Student B will be admitted. But if there is no more vacancy in School Y, Student B will then be considered for his next choice of school.

Therefore, merit comes before choice - subject to availability of vacancies in the school.

We would like to further share that the aggregate scores have been rounded to the nearest integer , for the purpose of posting pupils to school. In the event where candidates with the same aggregate score choose the same school, they will be posted based on their unrounded aggregate scores.

If a child fail to get a place in any of his choice of schools, he will be posted to a school near his home which still has vacancies, and for which he meet the school's lowest PSLE aggregate.

For more information on the Mainstream Secondary schools’ cut-off scores for their courses (e.g. Integrated Programme), you can refer to the School Information Service (SIS) website: http://app.sis.moe.gov.sg/schinfo/index.asp.

With regard to your enquiry on affiliation bonus points, you may wish to know that the information is also available under “Affiliated Schools” section on the following website: http://moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/secondary-one-posting/option-exercise/considerations/.

Should you have any further enquiries, please email us at [email protected].

A small twist to the \"based on merit\" posting though....from this year's grey book...

7.2 In situations where there are two or more pupils with the same rounded aggregate score vying for the last place in a school, they will be posted based on their
citizenship status (i.e. Singapore citizens, then Singapore Permanent Residents,
                      then International Students)....

Ever so small advantage of citizenship... 🙂

I can 100% assure you that you will not get the first choice, and likely not the second either.

Whats the purpose of this unnecessary remark? The choice have been made and submission have already closed. And why not dhs? I think she is in with a good chance.

Just stating a fact that there Nanyang is completely out. And I would have agreed that Dunman might be likely, if TS had not placed it as the second choice.[/quote]Skyed, I know you took your PSLE 4 years ago & you are waiting for O level results. Maybe you should use more positive comments to encourage your junior.
