MPM Maths - Discussion

Hi kiasume, like to check with you since your son has been on Jelic for quite a while. We have been on the program for a term now. So far, based on the evaluation sheets that my son brought back, I could roughly tell what were the activities that he did during the lesson. However, are we expected to do find similar activities at home to reinforce what was done in the class? So far, I didnβt do anythingβ¦

Hello luvmum, I am sure you will like it there. My boy loves Jelic alot. At a start, he keeps asking for more. But I only allows him to attend once per week. BTW, he attends at the Toa Payoh branch.[/quote]
Thank U kiasume for the reassuring words. :hugs: I was pretty impressed with the way maths is introduced to the children w/o the typical board and chalk kind of method which I myself find it dry and that is what we teach the kids at home too. I've paid the deposit and reg fee and my children will start in Nov as my elder girl is giving 1 mth notice to her current enrichment centre. By then my younger boy will be close to 4 yrs old. Hope he enjoys really cos I find it interesting too.
Hi Singapore45, there are a number of models that the child needs to build and it goes by level, from simplest to toughest. There are a lot of manipulative tools that are displayed in the centre so each week they get to build different stuff. Would suggest you pay a visit to the centre and get them to show you the product. Term fee 10 lessons is $380...should be right la. Good thing is you can makeup for the lesson in event if the child is unable to make it.
They are pretty flexible as I told the teacher cum owner that we won't be coming whole of dec since we are away for holidays and centre closed for last 2 weeks. They make special arrangement for us.
I do realise that they will dispose the workbooks once completed so parents dun get to keep it and circulate ard. Right now the only con is that the teacher English not so fantastic but since they are not language English, it's still acceptable to me.
See how it goes, I'm just excited to get my kids learning from them, :celebrate: -

It is really up to you. Some similar activities off the shelf can be found at Growing Fun. Logico set is very good and I feel it is very value for $. And others such as the right brain critical sets from Taiwan. If you are visiting Taiwan, you will see that they have loads and very cheap as well. Not too sure whether you know.....MPM concept originates from Taiwan. The rights and controls were bought from US. -
Yes, luvmum is correct. If you missed a lesson at MPM, it can be replaced anytime. There is no restriction as in when you must complete the replacement. This is a very plus point for me.

Thanks, kiasume. Where is Growing Fun? Logico set is something that is sold at Growing Fun?

I went to Taiwan a couple of years ago, was in one of their department stores and you are right, I saw a lot of right brain stuff being sold... but didn't buy any as they were priced quite quite steeply.
Yes, heard about MPM originating from a Taiwanese living in the US whereas Enopi is from Korea... -

As for the logico, it is not sold at Growing Fun. I can't remember which retail carries this. I think popular has this (I think I saw this a few ago). There is this online store carries this which is http://www.sgshinekids.com/index.html and this is not a true version but a copied ones from China. But it is good enough.
There are many different version (english and chinese and even Indonesian Malay). It doesn't matter which one, coz it is quite straight forward. The adult do not need to read the instruction as it is quite straight forward. As for kids, parents must guide them through.
If you have the time, try to find preloved (if you can) coz I noticed quite a number of parents just give up on this and did not pressed on for the completion. So some of the preloved are quite good in quality. You just need to be patient. Otherwise just put up a post on WTB section will help lah. That is only my advise.
As in buying Right Brain stuff in Taiwan, don't go to the shop.
Go to those temporary stall at the street. They are very cheap. Off hand, I can't remember which particular street that is popular for children stuff.
