phtthp, any comments/background on Temasek?

phtthp
why are you so familiar with Bedok schools :scratchhead:
enrolling your kid in one ? -
My friend just enrolled her daughter into chij (katong) primary - 65 vacancies.
She SMS me - 31 registered, now left 34 vacancies.(a lot)
Dear sleepy,
I have some friends, their kids studying in pcf - all their piggies registering this year. Some are eyeing red swastika ( bec they stay less than 1 km.) others are eyeing Yu neng, some target feng Shan, some eyeing Ngee Ann, Haig girls, Gongshang, etc. hence, they got me interested in Bedok area. Some of their kids are sc, some are pr. My pr friends sigh. They told me that the better schools are out of reach for them. Eg: like temasek, red swastika, they know they don’t stand a chance.
Dear limlim,
I am afraid i do not know much about temasek primary. I don’t have any niece nor nephew studying there.
Is your son or daughter studying in temasek primary ?
Will be great if you can share with parents here (who are keen in enrolling their kids into temasek primary) how your kids and yourself (as a parent) find the school? Are they happy studying there? Are the teachers hardworking type, or depend on which class the child is streamed into (from p4 to p6) ?
Any info shared by parents with first hand experience, is always precious.
Much appreciated, thank you. -

I think this is the same in any school, regardless popular schools or notI guess, it depends on which teacher you get..
Some are not so desirable.... but some is really good.. Last 2 years EL teacher they got wasn't good.. My kids can't really follow and the teachers doesn't really seems to care.
But this year's teachers are really good...... one of the EL teacher is really professional.. you can feel their passion and sense their commitment.. And they do try to understand each students needs, strengths, and weaknesses.. etc.. You'll feel that the kids are in good hands..

Ya, noted that too. in any case, I am not surprised. Being in the school for the last 2.5 years, I have never regretted transferring my gal especially I was given an opportunity to select from 2 other top schools in the east. The principal there is approachable and school strongly believing in helping every child where possible. I would always remember that P has emphasized that she is not keen to showcase a few top students but to bring up the overall T-score of the school. They have done that and their action show. In my opinion, this is really a school with heart. I am glad that my decision made 2.5 years ago will go a long way to ensure that my descendants are not deprive of this opportunity. :please:just saw the moe list.

Indeed, from my understanding, RSS is not very academic. There is no streaming for top 2 classes till p5. Yes, on one hand can say it is holistic, no discrimination again weaker students as most schools channel better resources to top classes. On the other hand, it's not the most effective way of teaching because teachers can only target the middle segment in each class, hard to cater to the high ability or weaker kids.

And according to parents whose kids are still studying there, its standard dropped quite a fair bit compared to years ago. And last year, I heard from a kindy acquaintance that there was a fighting incident in toilet.
Another complaint I heard is that the school under teached. For instance, Science notes are so sparing that there are hardly sufficient notes to prepare for exam. Yet exam papers have relatively good standard so it's rather hard for kids without external enrichments to do well. Parents must be very hardworking to make up the lack of teaching.
Pardon me, I only heard bad stuff, don't know why :scratchhead:
Glad your experience is good though

[/quote]I am not sure of the drop. Honestly, I am contented with the cohort average T-score og app 227+. As for the science notes, yes this is quite true but i thought all schools are almost the same ? Most of the times I depend on tuition centres to provide these materials. I am quite sure the phenomenon is unlikely to change in the near future. Otherwise, TLL will not have so many students from top schools. It is an area that i hope to see a change so that the poor will not be deprived but it is really something for the GOVT to do.
As to the fight in the toilet, guess this is an one-off incident. Ha, TNS is also in the limelight recently. I guess we need to understand that where ever we are, they are bounced to have \" black sheeps\".
Btw, sleepy, why are you so concerned over RSS ? Your children are in this school ?
