Are you happy you have been heard by MOE...

Wish they could give free school uniforms out and free textbooks too.
For all or for specific group of kids?
Actually for a specific group of kids, every year we donate old but good condition uniforms and similarly for textbooks to help those less fortunate kids in our school. -

No use free textbooks. We want free assessment books. -

With P1 registration priority, I totally understand and agree with the changes. But with the fees, there appears to be no direct benefit to Sg children. Are you honestly feeling better/happier after reading this news? Not me.
No, this point is more linked to the rights of being a citizen like the P1 registration priority. Not so complicated. It seems that MOE is trying to address the difference in being a citizen and a non-citizen first as the general sentiments outside education issues are not so pleasant regarding this.nansk:
... How is it going to benefit Singaporean kids if their non-Sg classmates will now pay higher fees? Is there any promise that the higher fees collected will be used to bring in more teachers/teacher-training/extra coaching for exams etc.? -
nansk:
Agree. How is this going to benefit Singaporean students? MOE never elaborated. Disclaimer: My kids are PR, and I'm a true blue Singaporean. So we'll be affected and we can't be happy about it  Though an increase of $40-$50 won't be enough to deter pple from coming to Sgp and converting to PR, hence taking up sch places. People are paying much more for tuition. I have a greater issue with the millions of fully paid for scholarships given to foreigners, who are not even PRs, and whose parents don't pay any taxes. At least Sgp PRs are paying taxes (assuming that PR students have PR/Citizen parents). This is all ่กจ้ขๅๅคซ (less complicated than trying to deal with the scholarship issues) to try and win over the voters' heartsใ
Wait. Was this really what ksp parents were clamouring for? How is it going to benefit Singaporean kids if their non-Sg classmates will now pay higher fees? Is there any promise that the higher fees collected will be used to bring in more teachers/teacher-training/extra coaching for exams etc.?ksi:

to differentiate citizens and non-citizens? -
nansk:
No, actually I don't have much feelings about the fees directly except that MOE has taken some action, at least we know what they are busy with.

ksi, I couldn't decide, cos basically, it doesn't make any difference to me since it isn't our fees that has been lowered in comparison to non-citizens. But you are right, this is a baby step towards making further differences. Um...how long has this issue been sat on for this baby step to happen har :?

Think by the time the tuition issue comes about, our kids would have left school. (hope not cos of being kicked-out kind)

1) No use giving textbooks...they are lousy.Oppsgal:
Wish they could give free school uniforms out and free textbooks too.
No use free textbooks. We want free assessment books.
2) As for assessment books, i think this is not that helpful either. Child doesn't really learn much from doing assessment book.
3) Ultimately, give us teachers who can teach properly like is/are/am, pronouns, adjectives etc etc.
Erm...am I heard ? -
nansk:
Actually, I wonder... How much MOE will get as an addition to these increase. I mean, is it really a significant number of students affected with these new fees? What's the percentage as I think more than half of FT and PR has no kid or at least the kid is not here in Singapore. CMIIW

This move could be viewed as a half-empty or half-full glass.... So I choose half-full to treat myself better and I feel appreciation may give people more energy to work the next mile.
