Are you happy you have been heard by MOE...
-
Being heard is insufficient. There should be action done.
At least, I hope teachers are genuinely teaching and not leaving that to tutors. What about installing CCTV in classrooms or having officers sitting at back of class ? I remember having minister coming to our classroom on adhoc. Once, the education minister came into the โkitchenโ while home economics class was going on. -
nansk:
No, this point is more linked to the rights of being a citizen like the P1 registration priority. Not so complicated. It seems that MOE is trying to address the difference in being a citizen and a non-citizen first as the general sentiments outside education issues are not so pleasant regarding this. They have not reached the issue on \"tuition nation\" yet..
Wait. Was this really what ksp parents were clamouring for? How is it going to benefit Singaporean kids if their non-Sg classmates will now pay higher fees? Is there any promise that the higher fees collected will be used to bring in more teachers/teacher-training/extra coaching for exams etc.?ksi:

Regarding this CCTV thing, it will cost them too much. Having officers sitting at the back of the class is doable. In our school, if any negative feedback is given for class conduct or teacher's conduct, our VP will sit-in and do an observation class. -
We can definitely have VP sitting in as and when. But VP and teacher belong to same schoolโฆmay still side their own. It will be better to have someone from MOE. No advance notice should be given to the particular class(es) on that day. People sitting up there should be aware of what is going on on ground level.

Wish they could give free school uniforms out and free textbooks too.

True, but the thing is if a VP has decided to sit in, it would have put the teacher on the toes, so it will still be a win-win-win-win for all. MOE has inspectors visit for general things in school, not so teacher-specific. I suppose if MOE has a programme like \"Grooming ace teachers to nurture star students\", then putting officers into schools regularly would appear more seamless and has a more positive vibe to assist the teachers than the undesirable fear-planting vibes. -

For all or for specific group of kids?
Actually for a specific group of kids, every year we donate old but good condition uniforms and similarly for textbooks to help those less fortunate kids in our school. -

No use free textbooks. We want free assessment books. -

With P1 registration priority, I totally understand and agree with the changes. But with the fees, there appears to be no direct benefit to Sg children. Are you honestly feeling better/happier after reading this news? Not me.

Agree. How is this going to benefit Singaporean students? MOE never elaborated. Disclaimer: My kids are PR, and I'm a true blue Singaporean. So we'll be affected and we can't be happy about it  Though an increase of $40-$50 won't be enough to deter pple from coming to Sgp and converting to PR, hence taking up sch places. People are paying much more for tuition. I have a greater issue with the millions of fully paid for scholarships given to foreigners, who are not even PRs, and whose parents don't pay any taxes. At least Sgp PRs are paying taxes (assuming that PR students have PR/Citizen parents). This is all ่กจ้ขๅๅคซ (less complicated than trying to deal with the scholarship issues) to try and win over the voters' heartsใ

No, actually I don't have much feelings about the fees directly except that MOE has taken some action, at least we know what they are busy with.

ksi, I couldn't decide, cos basically, it doesn't make any difference to me since it isn't our fees that has been lowered in comparison to non-citizens. But you are right, this is a baby step towards making further differences. Um...how long has this issue been sat on for this baby step to happen har :?

Think by the time the tuition issue comes about, our kids would have left school. (hope not cos of being kicked-out kind)

No use free textbooks. We want free assessment books.
2) As for assessment books, i think this is not that helpful either. Child doesn't really learn much from doing assessment book.
3) Ultimately, give us teachers who can teach properly like is/are/am, pronouns, adjectives etc etc.
Erm...am I heard ? -
nansk:
Actually, I wonder... How much MOE will get as an addition to these increase. I mean, is it really a significant number of students affected with these new fees? What's the percentage as I think more than half of FT and PR has no kid or at least the kid is not here in Singapore. CMIIW

This move could be viewed as a half-empty or half-full glass.... So I choose half-full to treat myself better and I feel appreciation may give people more energy to work the next mile.

Hi resgmom
101% agree with you. What exactly singaporeans get when PRs like myself pay more for my childrenโs education? I can only imagine more PRs will apply for Sg citizenships and entitle to the same benefits as Sg citizens. Even before the changes to P1 registration, I hv PR friends either the husband or wife but not both of them applied for citizenship just to get baby bonus, pay lesser for childcare, no sch fees & etcโฆAnd 1 PR couple who applied for phase 2b (church). Their 1st child did not get in so they went for plan b. The wife applied for sg citizenship (she got it) and they are moving near to one of the Gep schools soon. Bec of the changes to the p1 registration, their 2nd child will hv a higher chance of getting into the gep school and they will apply for transfer of their 1st child to the gep sch. And in the meantime, she is enjoying all the benefits that singaporeans are entitled to. So what exactly singaporeans get or benefit from all these changes? -

Maybe that is the ultimate aim - killing 2 birds with 1 stone. A good political move, very much aligned with the current direction. Singaporeans? It makes no difference to us, like I've mentioned earlier.Hi resgmom

The increased citizens were probably seen when the P1 priority changes...
