                    Hi Blissedsher,

I'm one of those parents who are not so concerned with academics. I want my kids to continue to play hard in school and have fun. To me, when they have fun in school, they will enjoy learning.. and when they enjoy learning, the results will come naturally.

So I was very determined to send my kids to Hougang Primary where I feel they have good CCA programmes. But due to some other commitment, I missed the PV registration.. hence missed my chance. Next option would be to send to my former school.. shall not name it.. but it has good academic track records.. but not so interesting CCAs. So decided to give it a miss.

Long story short, I then read the news about the 3 new schools opening in Sengkang area. And I immediately thought this would be a good chance! Being new, the school will have fresh ideas, and parents will have more involvement in the school development.. playing a part is steering the school's direction. I went to the roadshow.. listened to all the sales pitch from the 3 principals.. and Palm View sold me with his vision for the school. He shared my vision of education.. where academic result is secondary.. there are other things more impt than that. And up till now, I have to say that he has been consistent in communicating this vision.

Well.. story getting too long. PM me if you wanna know more things. Don wan the rest to get bored reading this.. hahahahhahaha.

I think… at the end of the day… you have a certain expectation when you choose a particular school. Some parents choose because of distance to home. Some parents choose Palm View because they like the challenge of being in a new school and new system. Some choose because they do not want their kids to be overwhelmed by the presence of other bigger kids. For me, I chose Palm View coz (1) I like the fact that it is new… meaning parents have a chance to co-create the school with the staff, etc, (2) I share the same view with the Principal on how we see/perceive education and (3) I like their school uniform.

Yes the last reason may sound ridiculous… but bottom line is… choose a school that suits your expectations (be it academic, distance, non-academic emphasis, etc) and come up with back-up plans and support system to ensure your has the necc support to see him/her thru’ primary school.
