I have heard from the parent chatgroups, that these challenging 4-mark and 5-mark questions towards the back of paper 2 are \"maths olympaid\" and \"GEP heuristics\" type of questions. To help MOE differentiate between the primary 6 students scoring AL1 versus AL2. I hope that the get me thinking books will help in that area.

The 4 or 5 marks problem are not really MO question types. Definitely heuristic. I do find the Get Me Thinking very useful for such 4 or 5 marks problem sums. The solution they provide are very clear and provide step by step explanations so you can \"see\" the thinking process.

However, Get Me Thinking do not cover all topics. They only cover topics that have those 4 to 5 marks problem sums. So for eg, they won't cover graphs or angles.

MO type questions - best still try MO books.

One advantage (or at least characteristic) of the current AL System is that 90 or 100 still gets AL1. IMO, there is less of a need to build-up the warchest / tool set to be able to solve all of the questions that may come your way on the actual paper. In contrast, under t-score there were definitely students maxing out the paper, and even a low A* was giving up points (in the aggregate total score).

Of course, as you have seen the papers and questions do seem to fluctuate year-to-year, so it is possible there's 10+ points of \"challenging\" questions to try and divided AL1 vs. AL2. But I'm not sure this is the case in most years, and if a student is able to get through most of the paper clean (i.e. no careless errors - easier said than done) then he/she should be able to withstand missing 1 or 2 of the challenging questions and still obtain AL1.

This is not to say don't build up the math skills if the student is otherwise interested in Math. But for the PSLE paper itself it may not be necessary....

Thanks for the list. I’m surprised Learning Lab is not in it. Am I outdated? My child doesn’t go for my classes. He’s in P4 now, doing ok but i’d like to stretch his math ability. please share if it is wise to consider learning lab. I’m in the east and most of these centres you mentioned in the list are in north I believe. Any suggestions for the east side?

Thank you for your well wishes! My daughter is very nervous as she wants to get into her dream school. But I have been telling her to relax and enjoy her holidays as what's done is done, and we should not dwell over past events.

Anyway here's a picture of how bulky the NickleBee Math worksheets are! These are just the worksheets, there's another file just for the practice exam papers that she did at the NickleBee Math tuition --- I think she did about 18 P6 exam practice papers with NickleBee this year alone. Most of them are past year exam papers from top schools, some are in-house designed exam papers.
