Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes

Hi,
I am in a dilemma whether to enroll my 5 yr old daughter in Kumon Maths or Abacus.
Few months back I had enrolled her in Abacus in a nearby CC, she used to get 5-7 worksheets as homework every week.
For 1 worksheet to make her do I had to sit with her for 1 hour, if I sit with her for Abacus I don’t have time for doing any other activity with her on a weekday. Also her teacher used to tell she is very playful, in the 1 hr class hardly she does 10 sums. Her class strength was 10-12 kids of different age group.
My concerns are:
1. Do both abacus n kumon classes have so much homework that everyday 1 hr we need to sit for kumon/abacus. Then how do we manage with other activities like reading books. Working moms please advise how much time do you spend with your child for studying on a daily basis.
2. If they learn abacus method of maths, would it be confusing for them in P1. How about if the child learns kumon?
Thanks, -
Hi,
Also please advise any good kumon centres near buangkok crescent.
I checked that there is one in selatar-yio chu kang and hougang green shopping mall. Can anyone please provide feedback or share their experience with these centres.
Thanks -
kaisuparents:
I let my 5yrs+ DS does Kumon worksheets all on his own. No supervision is needed. I only need to tell him how many he needs to complete (in daily basis). We spend like 1-2 hours daily (only if no enrichment classes in the evening) for homework, revision & reading. I am FTWM btw. I have no comments on abacus but since Kumon works for my DS, we will sign our DD up soon next year when she is around 4yo. HTH.Hi,

How is mindstretcher for p2 at bishan? Is standard good there? How r the teachers like?
My child was in Mind Stretcher for P2 and P3. Started with Math and followed by English. After 18 months in Math, pulled her out as didn't see any improvement. She also found that it was not helpful as the teacher just made them copy the answers without much explanation.
Withdrawn from English also after about 18 months as didn't see improvement. Personally find the materials for Composition very good but not suitable for my child's learning.
Contrary to my own experience, have heard good comments about certain teachers in this center for Science and GEP programme. -
