Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes
-
Hi
I am a desparate parent of a primary 3 kid. She has been having her maths 1:1 tuition with a private tuitor (who also teaches English & Science) but the maths results seems moderate.
We are thinking it might be a problem of specialization. But there are numerous maths enrichment centers each boasting their mights. Can any experienced mums or dads provide some guidance and past experience? :?
thanks. -
Which area is convenient for you?

Your child must be willing to excel in maths then tuition or enrichment will help, if your child has a fear or learning altitude problem in the subject itself then the progress will be slow … find out the problem then as a parent we can lend our support to help … giving her more tuition or enrichment is not going to improve grade if the child is a reluctant learner

Hello Dmanor,
How many marks is your kid getting for all 3 subjects now? mind sharing? Need to know your standard for the definition of “moderate marks”. -
I hate to say this, but while the maths tutor can do the P3 maths, it doesn’t necesaary mean that the tutor can explain the concept of the topic clearly to your child.
When a child does not do well in maths, I believe the root cause is the comprehension of the concept behind the subject matter. Teaching is an art; imparting knowledge is one thing, making sure the child absorbs and understand what is being imparted is another thing.
How about going through your child’s mock test papers, SA1 to determine where is his weaker link? Chances are, he might be quite consistent stumbling on sums within the same topic across the papers, so you know he doesn’t understand the concept of that particular topic. This should be independent of careless mistakes though. -
Have to agree that perhaps you need to look through the test papers to find out where does the problem lies.
Are the loss of marks due to poor application of mathematical concepts or careless mistakes?
Maths is understand first, then practise, practise, and practise. Unlike language this is not a difficult subject to score, just need to do more questions of similar nature -
Hi
I know there are many discussion here regarding cma and mpm. Wonder if there’s anyone who has sent their kids to both school.
Would appreciated if you can share your experience.
Thank you. -
are there any parents who have tried both mpm and enopi math for their kid? whc is better?
to me, both are abt the same, both allow kids to progress at own paced, both have colorful materials and tools, except mpm is spiral, enopi is hierachical, but whc is really relevant to moe and gd in the long run? -
My DD will be in P3 next year, and she is not so strong in her math, want to find a good math tution center for her. After explorer here for a few days, i found below are some good center recommanded by parents. I don’t know which one is better, hope can get more feedbacks from kiasuparents…Or any other good one I missed?
1. Math Hub
2. Global education
3. The learning lab
4. kumor
5. MPM (seems for small kids)
6. Enopi (seems for small kids)
Thanks a lot… -
You've mentioned that your DD is not strong in math. So not sure whether will Math Hub (which focuses more on Math Olympaid training) and The Learning Lab (which is very challenging) be suitable for her. If the lessons are too 'high level' for her, she will not benefit from the extra lessons.
MPM caters to older children but I think the preferred entry level is before Pri 3. Also, I think it is more enrichment than tuition - that is, does not complement the topics in school syllabus.
Other centres that offer math enrichment that I can think of are Mind Stretcher, Perceptum and Newton's Apple.ctct61t:
