P3 Science - Is tuition required?
-
AdonciaTang:
Agreed with janet. Younger son did very well in science in pri 3-4 but plunged in pri 5. found out from his teacher which I send him to now said that his answering is not the correct way of answering. He failed during CA1 and SA1, I was super duper worried, and quickly send him for tuition through my sis recommendation and he improved to band 2 when he had his SA2.[/quote]Wow. Thats good.janet_lee88:

Personally I feel it is necessary unless schools teach students the skill to handle MCQ questions and open-ended. If kids do not have foundation, it will affect PSLE grades. -
lower block science was still manageable…but at p5, i really couldn’t take it anymore. the topics related to electricity and magnets was beyond me. upper block science is no joke.
i am eagerly waiting for the first talk in daughter’s school…at least i know what to expect at p3…if skill is taught to handle mcq/oe section, i have a peace of mind. -

That is their job.janet_lee88:

hi nms1,
i faced the same problem when son was in p3…but that’s history.
all i heard was ‘must indicate key word’…labelling a plant for eg, that’s of course…but with open-ended, it requires a correct sequence and technique to answer.
will refresh my memory later…read up on diversity. -
Hi,
I have encounter the same issue when my child in P3. He grasp the concept however he is not able to answer to the key word. A friend of mine told me at their stage need to enforce them on the key words and concept. Can work them on assessment. I think it did work for the child from my experience. -
Monster Mummy:
Yes they need to start from pri 3 to have that habit or else when until p5/6, its so difficult for them to change that habit.Hi,

No need, let them try first.

Agree. If the child can cope, why need tuition? -

Science tuition is really important. Schools don’t teach much science in school so everyone scrambles for tuition in P5. I learnt the hard way with DD1. Now am smarter. Started the other 2 kids earlier. It makes a difference coz every year, the students who do well are also the ones who are very strong in Science. The psle science paper is really not easy so best to be prepared.

Same applies for Maths. Actually kids need to focus on both science and maths. Tuition or self study can always be debated endlessly. I feel its all student specific.

Anybody has any recommendation for English & Science home tutor? Prefer recommendation through word of mouth but it seems very difficult to find 1. If anyone of you came across a good one, can you please let me know? Thanks a lot!

Any recommend for P3 science tuition centre?
Staying near potong pasir.
Thanks. -
Depends on how the child is doing so far and whether he or she is discipline enough to do the extra work at home. If mum is not working, then maybe guiding from mum is sufficient. Usually the foundation of the child and the interest in studying are important.
I'm giving enrichment classes for English and Math in Woodlands for primary students focusing on the foundation for reading and comprehension and core concepts in Math. Monthly fees is $150 for 8 lessons for two subjects including material. Contact me at 91293566 if interested -
I think p3 sets the foundation for the kids, as I find that without good foundation it will affect their confidence as they move to the next level. I did not engage tuition for my daughters previously, and one of them was able to do fine. The younger one struggle a lot as she was learning with the right structure. Manage to engage a good home tutor who was experienced and able to guide her a lot. Thus she is doing fine now in p4 as seen in my attached image:)
So in conclusion, it really depends on your kid in the end (my older one coped well but my younger one needed guidance from a tutor). Lastly if you want the contact of my tutor you can ping me privately.
Happy weekend and stay safe!
