Let me qualify that the textbook prices are cheaper on Popular online where prices are published. It was convenient to order and they pack the books nicely in a box for u to pick up at the store. Even accessories like exercise book covers were cheaper. Iβve not compared with the in store prices.

Hello everyone,
I got the booklist in the post yesterday. I think i am more excited about it than my DS!
Read it and got 2 questions i need help with. Hopt to get some advice fr parents here.
A. Letter states school shoes with shoe laces only? White shoes with velcro straps not allowed?
B. format of name tags not given? Do we put the full name or jus initials n surname ? Or up to us?
C. Name tag for personal belongings we have to state class? Do we state just the name of the class or must put "P1" before the name?
D. Any advice on the sets of uniform i should purchased? 2 sets of each uniform and PE attire ok?
Thank you! -

A. Boys are allow to wear velcro white shoe, not sure if they are changing from next year with the 2013 P1 boys. But we have not \"hear\" anything from the school yet. You might want to validate by calling the school.
B. Name Tag cannot be in initial only ie. T.C.P, must have name ie. Jeremy Lim W.E. or Evan Tan. You may want to consider making extra name tag because you can use it for subsequent years. I reuse my boys's name tag when we change uniform or PE t-shirt, however they might not last for 6 years. A few extra on-hand will prove handy
C. Name tag for personal belonging is to help the child to retrieve lost item. Personally I find it better if you include class ie. Bryan Lee -1 Charity.
D. We bought 2 sets each for my boy and it is sufficient for him. If their PE days are 3 consecutive days then you might want to consider buying an additional set of PE attire, you decide when you get the time-table.
Hope this helps

Hello jheng,
Thank you very much. Your input has been very helpful.
I will try calling the school soon to check on the shoe laces part.
Appreciate your response! -
Hi everyone
The letter states that on PE days, the boys will have to wear their PE attire to school and they have to change into their uniforms after PE.
Can any parents advise if they should pack their uniform in their school bags (which will be crumple by then) or they should wear their uniform together with the PE attire?
Many thanks! -
Hi,
I have called the school. Velcro straps for school shoes ok. Just have to be white.
Have a few other questions.
Saw in booklist got science book for Pri 1. I assume that sceince, health, social studies etc I have to buy as no long as it didn't state its non-compulsory?
I am on a tight budget so got to seek some advice.
Socks - only state S, M, L : Any mummies can advise the size? I tried calling the bookstore but nobody picked up. The general office can't help me on this question.
Also I saw in the art section, they need 36 colours for oil pastals, i assume its crayons? Is it necessary to buy if I already have existing 24 colours. Sigh. I know it sounds silly but doing the sums just for the text books, uniforms etc adds up to a scary sum and i don't want to waste if not necessary to buy.
Thanks for helping. -

1. I don't buy those non-complusory items.
2. My DS wear normal white sock without school logo.
3. Crayons and oil pastals are different, but you may have him bring the crayons until the arts teacher ask him to buy since we have no idea if oil pastal is a must for art lesson

Hello jheng,
Thank you. I took your advice and didn't buy those art stuff that I don't need. Will buy when the teacher ask. Didn't buy the socks too.
Thanks for helpful advice. -

Saw in booklist got science book for Pri 1.
may i know Title of this P1 Science textbook and workbook ? Thanks.
does the school teach P1 Science (ie. give P1 pupils a headstart in Science subject, to prepare & give them exposure ahead for P3 Science later on) during Term time normal curriculum hours, or expect CH parents to teach their P1 child Science at home (ie. read like a storybook), using this book ?
do current 2012 P1 students also have Science, or only wef 2013 P1 pupils ?
