Hello! My dd has successfully got a place in CHIJ (Kellock). I’m deciding whether to drive her to school in the morning or take the school bus.

I’m staying in the Queenstown area and wondering what time we will have to take the school bus. If too early, I may want to drive her there so that she can get another half an hour more (maybe) of sleep. Anyone staying around here can give some advice? Many thanks!

Hi there, someone told me that Kellock does not push very hard on the kids academically. But they are good at moulding an all rounder kid eg. the school will let the kids try a lot of different things. I would appreciate comments from parents with their dd in this school. I mean ultimately, I want my girl comes home happy everyday and not overly stressed.

Well, yes, that is what I have observed in this first year at the school. They do teach all the concepts in the syllabus, but I haven't see the intensive drill-and-kill approach yet. As compared to other schools that intensively focus on academic performance (and where I've seen some parents complaining on this forum about the heavy workload), I have not come across any CHIJ (Kellock) parent complaining on this forum or in person. πŸ˜„

And that is as it should be. P1 and P2 are for getting used to the idea of school and lessons and gaining a familiarity with the concepts of reading, spelling, hadnwriting, parts of speech and maths. I am sure in P3 the pace will pick up - after all, the school has to get the girls up to speed by end-P5 for the PSLE. But for now, the bite-size learning approach seems to be working for my dd.

My dd tends to dawdle in her work and would bring back homework daily in the first half of the year. What I have seen is, only the work that they cannot complete in school is sent home as homework. If they can complete their worksheets in the school, then there is no homework. Now that my dd has realized this, she rarely brings home anything. πŸ˜„ She loves having the rest of the day to herself.

Also, just fyi, I believe they will be \"streamed\" in P3. (My dd says that they will be re-sorted into different classes.)

                        Hi all,

Please post here (to let me know) the date for the school registration. Last year, it was in early October.

All the vendors (shoes, uniform, bookshop) will be there and we want to re-stock on some items.

                        Thanks in advance πŸ™‚
